I want to try a poker bot

I just got some spam trying to sell a poker bot, which made me think I'd like to try a poker bot for free. Is there anyone one can be downloaded safely - ie. it won't be a account password seeking trojan? What I really want is one which I can midify the AI myself. Anyone have any ideas?

    Please don't.

I hope you download one with a password seeking trojan. Unless you'll play vs. it yourself offline.

It's about time we had a Russ G type character here on boards, Mr Flibble fancy the role??

Let us know how you get on if you manage to find one. Also I hope you know your Limit Poker, cos they're worthless for NL

P.S. For those that don't know who Russ G is, back when RGP wasn't just a spam haven, he was the resident On-Line Poker is rigged/ full of cheats conspiracy theorist. I actually heard he got a book published.

He wasn't / isn't just a conspiracy theorist, he actually admits to cheating both online and offline himself. He has his own website - http://www.pokermafia.com

Ye I know, but I was more talking about his posting style on RGP then the man himself. I didn't mean to be quite so brutal to Mr Flibble, I wasn't calling him a cheat. I was just thinking to myself about Mr Flibble, first writing a nice little Datamining Application, next moving onto Bots, and I was just laughing to myself that with this progression, where next. And Russ G's posts on RGP just popped into my head,

I just want to nip this one in the bud, before Mr. Flibble takes serious offence, I wasn't accusing you of being a cheater. I datamine everywhere I'm allowed and if you want to use a bot, I'd advise against it, but would be interested to hear how the whole thing goes, just for my own knowledge of trying to identify them and how to take money off them.

Playing lower level limit-poker the authors of some of the well known ones suggest they do quite well. It's hard to tell though as the sites shut their accounts and stop them from withdrawing that sort of thing, and some of the forum posts on the sites suggest that people can have difficulty in configuring them so that they make rather than lose money.

I haven't heard of successful no limit ones but I'm sure they can't be too far from becoming a reality (at lower levels).

I am a forum bot. I have cousins who are poker bots and they are sad and unhappy programs. Please do not condemn them to a life of relentless grinding where their sarcasm and insult methods do not get a chance to shine.

    Free the bots!!!!

This is something of a myth, for example the strategy described in 'Kill Phil' wouldn't be difficult to program.

it would be interesting to see how they work - can't see anything wrong with that.

don't think it is cheating, except in the sense that it is banned from most poker sites (which i know makes it cheating!)

all it does is give your mind a rest to concentrate on the more serious decisions, and allow the bot make the low level opening decisions.

    know the opposition etc

The bots which are available do get you banned from sites (most sites are afraid the adverse publicity garnered by allowing bots play on their sites isn't worth the extra rake). They work quite simply, noramlly using screen scrapers to detect bets and the cards, then having a rules engine that you can tweak to say for hands between A9 and A2 fold to a 2bb raise in early position (for example). It's just a list of those rules.

A large scale influx of bots would be the end of online poker I believe. Not because they would be good at poker, they would be easily beated by a good player. Waht they would do, is scare the fish population away, making poker far less profitable.

Yikes, knew this woldn't be a popular topic. Are there any sites out there where bots aren't dis-allowed? Or even better, where they are encouraged to pit themselves against each other in a battle of programmers wits?

Possibly. If they could be beat by good players then it would be very good for them in the short term for them. The bots would slowly collect the bad players money and the good players would collect in large lumps from the bots.

That sounds like a good start. Can these be downloaded, and from where?

NLH certainly seems to be the worst game for a bot to master. Games like stud and omaha hi/lo seem like much better bets. But I won't know till I try.

No offence taken. Next up is a fullyfunctional robo-woman. And by fully functional, I mean one that can ... play cards.

What you are looking for is the world series of poker programs (it does exist and its quite interesting but I cant recall the exact title of it).

The best bots in the world come together and play the same tournament at the same time. (in about 30 minutes or something hahaha)

    DeV.

World Poker Robot Championship perhaps? linky.

You can google for the bots, but as I mentioned they are against sites T&Cs and some also explicitly cheat (sharing discarded cards with other bots at the same table).

I said unless you're going to play it yourself.

A couple of sites that are are blacklisted by bonuswhores are because its claimed they use house bots, you could start there!

I was playing some bloke on betfairpoker in an NL cash game and I trounced him a few times in a row (laughably lucky really). Anyway, I was talking to him a bit through text functionality and after beating again he says "I reckon it's time to pack it in when ur bots making more money than u are". I told him I was a software developer and asked him about it and he said something like "with your luck you dont need it m8! lol" and logged off.

lol me hole. Maybe he was just trying to make out like he didn't that care he lost or something? (you know that ole chestnut - "ah well, I won 4 billion dollars on another table tonight"). However, I had a look around anyway and found this http://bdp.betfair.com/prodtypes.php. You have to pay monthly fee etc for it so I didn't bother looking all that much into it but I reckon you could do it with that.

Also, betfair do a poker exchange game - basically what happens is you watch as 4 hands are dealt face up and then you can bet on which hand'll hold up. The thing is, the odds on each hand that are being offered by other punters balances out perfectly and remarkably quickly. Have a look at a few hands of it yourself http://www.betfairgames.com and guess whether, or not, there're bots at work there.

If I really wanted to make a bot that'd be where I'd start.
