Ghosts of Mars - Worst John Carpenter Film Ever?

Just made the mistake of sitting through the Ghosts of Mars on E4.

Thought it would be a mildly entertaining diversion, since I hadnt seen it before. Besides it's a JC film, it could be pretty good.

Boy was I wrong. It must be the worst JC film ever made surely?

It was like some studio said "Here ya go John here's $40 Million, go piss it up the wall for us would you?"

"Sure" replies John, "Can I have another $100,000 for some 80's guitar **** I made up in my bedroom for the sound track?"

"Great Idea John! I'll get my cheque book."

Still in disbelief, shockingly poor. Worst soundtrack ever.

Did he do it as a bet??

I actually didn't mind Ghosts on Mars. Don't get me wrong, it's rubbish, but it was an enjoyable romp. It's just a sci-fi remake of Assault on Precinct 13, so it can't be too bad if he's ripping himself off! :D

Thats pretty much what I thought too. Not a good film, but not really a bad film either in my opinion for what it was. Not as earth shatteringly bad as I'd been lead to believe.

A bad "John Carpenter" film though, yes, a bit disappointing I suppose in that sense.

It besmirches the memory of assault on precinct 13.

Nothing will ever be as bad as The Fog remake, which he said that he was very happy with. I shudder to think if it could be any worse.

I think he meant he was happy with the millions he was paid for the rights and the millions he got from the original selling again :D

Haven't seen Ghosts of Mars but I thought Prince of Darkness was a pile of ****. Escape from LA was fairly disgraceful too. I liked Vampires though :o

Snake playing basket ball ..... oh the humanity

JC has lost it big time, but then so has Lucas, Speilberg, Copala. All the greats eventually lose it when they forget why they were making movies in the first place. Its like hippies who grow up to be Republicans.

Saw it ages ago on DVD (FacelessMan's choice.....typical) and the only good but was the rather hillarious bit when the guy on drugs chopped off his own finger and just giggled!

    A truly awful film!

Johnny's Vampires is on at 00:15 on UK Gold if someone wants to check out one of his later works.

At the very least you get to see Sheryl Lee's arse.

Drunken posting rocks and I will NOT hear a word against it!!!

(Oh, and it was because the guy was at odds with the hero and they all thought they were going to die, so the hero had nothing to lose in killing him!")
