I will be working in Ireland on a temporary basis (possibly 6-12 months) using UK reg car and returning to the UK every few weeks or so.
How does this fit in with the Custom tax law?

If you've owned the vehicle for more than six months, you are not required to pay any VRT on the vehicle.

Since we are within the EEA, you are not required to pay VAT on it.

In theory, you are required to register the vehicle with revenue, but "visitors" are not required to register with revenue or pay road tax. A visitor is someone who spends less than x amount of days in the country (someone else might know how many).

For your purposes, you should be fine to use the vehicle so long as you're insured to drive here.
