Booting without RAM...

I have an old 2500 inspiron laptop that has been sitting around literally disassembled for the last few months. I decided to put it back together to see if i could get it running as a server, but it has no RAM at the moment, as i sold it on when i took it apart. When i boot it up, nothing at all comes up ( i have it connected to a monitor) not even the BIOS. Should the BIOS load up even without RAM or it just f00ked altogether?

You need Ram....the Bios wont load without

AFAIK, the bios needs the RAM to load into.
    So no RAM = nothing.

Hmm, it's worth the gamble than. Why is that though? Is the BIOS not ROM. I would have thought it could load independently?

Correct - the BIOS is a form of ROM. The system should perform a min-boot from the BIOS, check all the hardware (including RAM) and then boot the OS.

I would have thought it would stop at the hardware/memory detection phase.
