    Just got my results of 1st 4 FE1's - passed two and failed two. I think I'm approaching the questions the wrong way. The subjects I'm doing is Criminal, Equity, company and constitutional. Does anyone have any sample answers that I could look at to get an idea of how to approach a question and see where I'm going wrong.

    hey,

    are you doing a grinds course such as griffith? i just passed the april round there solely down to their books. the answers are directly in the manuals. altho for constitutional def buy fergus ryans nutshell best 20 euro i ever spent!! for const its 30% law 70% objective discussion.
    best advice re: sample answers - saves you a stack of time and way better for revision, read q write 6/7 bullet points 3/4 key cases in brief details from memory then check manuals . its great to look over that format night before/morning of exam
    final piece advice is to sit five exams takes pressure off if you've a bad paper. perhaps contract? its short and easy.

    Pretty much agree with everything above, they aren't expecting an awful lot from you, a scratch knowledge of a lot of things will get you through.

    About to start study soon enough I think, just ordered some past papers/examiner reports. Whats the level of study (i.e. time) required compared to final year in a law degree?

    I found 10/14 days per subject on average to be comfortable, but I would imagine there are cleverer people than me about! :)

    Got them doing between 3 and 5 hours a day for about 3 weeks, my results were all in the low 50's.

    That seems handy enough. Should have a part time job at the same time so I'll have loads of time to study. Hardest part will be motivation I expect.

    Is there point in actually aiming for higher results in the exams?

    That's crazy talk. You better buy all the requisite materials to then pass onto me!

    I did an Llb (waste of time) and the FE's, dropped from a first to a 2.1 but I think thats mostly due to the fact I took neither the FE's or the LLB very seriously.

    A friend has just passed 5 Fe's while doing an LLM in Trinity, not sure how her LLM went though.

    Did you read any past examiners reports ?

    It's generally a good way to judge what way to approach different questions.

    What subjects did you fail ?

    I failed criminal and company. Company I knew I was a bit iffy about but criminal - I thought it would be my best one. I'm back in Griffith now. An started doing past questions so fingers crossed I will be more successful this time round.

    Is it started already? For oct?

    Criminal should be the easiest of them. There is very little actual content to learn.

    I passed the two of them, got 65 in criminal and 55 in company. I was in Griffith as well for them. Company was a bit of a nasty paper, Criminal seemed to have a narrow focus so If you left out a particular couple of topics the paper was difficult.

    As has been mentioned in the Griffith classes the approach to take to questions is the ILAC one. (Problem Questions anyway)

    I = Issues
    L = Law
    A = Apply the law
    C = Conclusion

    I did that with all my answers and did fine. It'll be worth having a look at the examiners report when it does come out.

    Reports should be out as we speak. Has anyone received one on one grinds from anyone and if so who would they recommend.
