S/W upgrade probs on Pace box

Just on the off chance here that someone may have a work round ?

My in laws have just returned from two weeks hols & had plugged everything out in the house before leaving, including their Pace Sky box (not Sky+).

When they plugged it back in yesterday, it went straight into 'on mode', i.e green light with all three front panel lights on (message, remote etc). The screen was black and carried a message saying 'Software Upgrade'.....could take up to 10 minutes.

30 minutes later, same message on screen and the box goes into standby - they press the red button and same message on screen about the software upgrade & all lights on again.

Phoned Sky & they suggested unplugging again, but to no avail - long & the short being they have to wait 9 days for a Sky engineer & miss the World Cup !!

Anyone any ideas on what we could try ?? or is the box banjaxed

    cheers

    Andi

    Try deliberately doing an upgrade.

Thanks Watty - tried this last night as per threads on doing this (hold backup & then plug in box etc.) but to no avail

All seemed to be running to plan, but after approx 7 minutes, the system went into standby for a few senconds, then straight back into the software upgrade screen without being touched. stayed like that for the next hour, so I'm presuming the box is having problems.

    thanks anyways

Sounds to me like the box is faulty. I had a similar problem around 9/11. The box would do its own thing by going into stand by. I tried everything but had the box replaced under warranty at the time. And it was replaced on that day I mentioned above. Bizarre.

How old is the digibox? If they're really stuck just go out and buy a new one in a shop or on line. They're easy to intall.

Perhaps is lnb or other bits are screwed so whenever sky box tries to do the upgrade it fails

Box is only 6 months old, so I'm presuming it will be sorted under warranty...just annoying that they have to wait so long for the engineer

did you check the cable from the dish is ok - pay particular attention to the thin copper wire in the centre. its possible that something happened to this...
