A really beautiful, understated car. I particularly like the Coupe.

Just as a matter of interest - are there any/many of these in Ireland. Are they all LHD? Were they ever sold in Britain?

Are they as durable as the saloon/estate or were they built elsewhere (Pininfarina?)

An elusive car - not featured in mags v often & I've rarely seen one even on the Continent...

I haven't seen any in Ireland only a crashed one in a panel beaters in Douglas in Cork, he has it in his basement for a long time and probably thinks its worth a mint.

There's a LHD cabrio floating around Foxrock.

Some pics I one I saw at a Citroen rally in NY last year:

    Hello 504 fans.

As a big fan and a 504 saloon driver myself I try to find as much info on these cars as possible.
I also love the style of the coupe and convertible( esp the latter).

I've never seen one in Ireland, but I lived in The Netherlands for a long time and I know there is still 'plenty' around there. If you check Dutch used car sites you'll find 10 or so, no problem.
Even on ebay in the UK there was 2 for sale recently.(RHD)

They're not cheap when in good condition( E5000-8000 for coupe, a few grand more for cabriolet)
But they're beautiful cars that will keep their value.

An idea for you Pburns, if you want one, is to go to the netherlands, buy one and put it in your name( this might be tricky cause you need a post address there, but where there is a will...)
You won't pay tax(at all) on any car over 25 years old( so almost all 504's)
Get classic car insurance there (E 100 or so)
And then enjoy your roadtrip home!
Just keep it on dutch plates as you'll never get checked if you drive it as a classic occasionally. And nobody keeps track of when you entered the country.

    good luck

I live in Holland and import classics from here to Ireland (check my linky). It's true there's plenty of 404's, 504's, coupe's and convertibles around, in good to very good condition, for reasonable prices and if you're interested I could look after the process for you.
However, with time and determination you could do all the homework yourself and it's possible to pick up a good car here from Ireland (most of the Dutch speak excellent English). Driving it home is very, very easy but probably better not by following the suggestion that Paddy made, as it will be extremely difficult, if not impossible (!!) to register the vehicle here in your name if you are not resident here. The law is very strict and you MUST supply an official ID (passport or driving license ONLY) with a Dutch address to be able to transfer ownership of the vehicle. Otherwise it's a no go !!!!
It's also not an option to put it in someone else's name, because the entire car registration system is crosslinked with ROAD TAX, Dutch NCT System and INSURANCE, so if the car is shown as not taxed, not insured, and not NCT'ed the person in whose name the car is registered in will get some nasty fines in the post for not keeping these up to date for " his " vehicle

The good news however is that you can transfer ownership easily by getting an export license + export plates instead. Together with the owner you make your way to a Bureau de Change or official Registration office, and there the original Dutch plates are handed over to the official to be destroyed, and you receive a set of quickly made, sometimes handwritten laminated white plastic plates with a temporary registration number that will be valid for two weeks. If you opt for the insurance as well, you can then literally get in the car immediately, and drive it insured, and road legal for two weeks, which should be plenty for getting the car to Ireland, and making a comfortable detour :D

Ok, times have changed by the sounds of it.

Sorry to give anybody false hope out there.

The fact remains that there is a lot of nice Peugeots out there on the continent and I'd love to see more of them here in Ireland.

I'll just stick to driving and caring for my 504 rather then talking...
