    Hello,

On our way back from Oz we have a stop over in Hong Kong.I have been looking at different Hotels and we were thinking of the Regal Hotel at Causeway Bay.
Im wondering wat transport to use,bus taxi or the train service ?
The train service is called the MRT & here are the prices !:http://www.mtr.com.hk/jplanner/jplanner/planner_index.php?start=50&destin=5&spot=1

If any body can give advise here it would be great, saftey etc...

    Thanks

Stayed here early last year. Nice hotel, cheap but a little out of the city centre. You can get a bus from the airport that drops you around the corner.

The MTR is easy to use, and provides a good service. I had no problems getting to where I wanted each day.

I never felt unsafe when I was there, and I wandered around quite a bit at night.

The city in general and its public transport in particular is efficient, spotless and safe. You shouldn't have any problems.

Hi I was born in Hong Kong and it's relatively safe. It's the same with all cities-stay out of dark alleys!! But the hotel that I personally stayed in was the Manderine Hotel. It was a good few years ago so I can't remember the price. Oh! by the way HK is a great place to go bargin hunting:D. well hope that helps!

    Hi

Stayed in the Marco Polo gateway in Kowloon. Gorgeous hotel, especially after coming from Bangkok and Koh Sarn road :)

Hong Kong is very easy to get around. Handy thing is you can book your luggage in at the train station for the Airport so you can be already checked in once you get off the train, saving you a bit of time.

Our hotel had a free bus from the train station to the hotel. THink it cost about 85 euros each (and we also got upgraded for free) its just off the harbour and right in the centre of town in Harbour City (the massive shopping centre)

Homg Kong is one of my favourite cities in the world and certainly in Asia.
As far as safety is concerned I wouldn't give it a second a second thought, I've been here four months out of the year and have seen two fights and I'm out almost everynight.
When i first came here before finding an apartment i found www.wotif.com to be the most competitive site to find a hotel and J've never had the slightest trouble with them.

As far as transport goes taxi's are cheap espiecally when compared to Dublin, as has been said the MTR is fantasticaly effiecient, but h.k is also a very walkable city. An alternative to walking is the tram, 2 h.k dollars no matter how far your traveling and is a tourist attraction in it's own right.

As far as sight seeing goes there's plenty to do, but be warned the most popular ( victoria peak ) is being renovated, unless you call ahead and book a window table at cafe deco (pretty expensive) i would give it a miss. Instead get the star ferry from the Wanchai ferry terminal to Tsim Tsai Tsui on the Kowloon side before eight in the evening and watch a show were the buildings in h.k light up in sync with music.

Been to Hong Kong loads of times and I love it.

I normally stay at the Excelsior on Causeway Bay or the Eaton Hotel on Nathad Road in Kowloon. The Airport Express is a good way to get in from the airport. It stops in Kowloon and then onto Hong Kong Central - Check where your hotel is and decide which is closest. The MTR is fantastic, comfortable, easy to use and understand. (I was in Tokyo last weekend and believe me compared to the Tokyo rail system the HKG one is dead simple). It's worth buying an Octopus card, I am not sure if the fares are cheaper but it is very convenient.

You will find that when you get to the central station you will be encouraged to use the courtesy bus, I would recommend avoiding this as the traffic can be a pain, Use the MTR instead.

Once in Hong Kong, I would recommend some of the following - A trip on the star ferry, Victoria Peak. I love gadgets and electircal stuff so I head for Sham Shui Po and Mongkok in Kowloon to do some shopping. From what I remember they are both on the red line. There is also the worlds longest escalator that passes a tacky Irish bar called the Dublin Jack!

We spent 3 nights in HK on our way to Oz this year (January). In fact quite a few who have already posted advice to you posted advice to me on my thread before we went.

We stayed in the Renaissance Harbour view hotel. I cannot recommend it enough. One of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in. It is connected (via shopping centre which is connected to the hotel) to the underground train system.

    HK was an amazing place.
