It's arrived with the canon 28-50 lense and a tamron 70-300 lense.

I've been trying it out and I'm well pleased and will take some proper photo's on holls next week.
Not today though as its lashing rain.

Now thing is,the last SLR I had was a film one-not digital.
I'm clueless as to how to make photos into a reasonable less than 100k jpeg.
I installed Canon DPP and arc soft photo studio-will they do this?

I've a 1 gig flash card on the camera so is it best to set the photos for max quality, use up that memory, transfer to the pc and then downsize to 100k or less for to store online?
Do you lose much quality by doing this?

Is there an online tutorial anywhere to guide me around this?

By the way at full quality, how many pics will that card hold ?

    Thanks

a 1gb card should hold 300+ photos at large/fine quality. For easy post-processing and resizing, grab a copy of picassa - http://picassa.google.com

    Thanks Rymus

    *...clueless head on...*

What menu do I use on picasa to resize? I've been looking and cannot find it.

Theres loads of options there for adding effects like lighting sepia tones etc.

I use Picasa for tweeks and small changes, but for resizing I use Focusviewer, I just prefer it for some reason (EDIT-RESIZE-SAVE), In Picasa to resize you have to goto: (FILE-EXPORT TO FOLDER-RESIZE) and it creates a new folder which I find annoying, unless there is an esier way?

Here is a link to focusviewer which is free:

regarding the picassa creating new folder thang, I find it's quite an advantage.

When I pull photos off the camera, I stick them into a folder and drop them onto a specific folder on my photo hard drive. Picassa is set to automatically scan that folder. Right, so at the moment I've got a folder full of folders full of photos.

After I edit the photos, I export them from Picassa (for Flickr) in 1600x1200 to a folder named (funnily enough), Picassa Exports. This gives me a folder full of folders full of processed images. From there, I'll further edit any photos in photoshop if need be.

Gives me two folders full of folders full of photos. One for the originals, one for the processed. Works quite well for me anyway.

check out the free 30 trial of photoshop CS2 on adobe.com. Definately worth it with a D-SLR! I think you can dl it from their ftp site too

I would always set it to as high as possible, Its very doubtful that you would ever need to take and keep 449 images between visits to a PC.
