Gaps in streaming audio

    Hope someone can help.
I installed Totalrecorder on my pc, and it seems to have screwed up how internet audio is streamed. I've un-installed it & then re-installed Real Player. The RP line connection tested out at 512kbps, so i set it at that rate, & under hardware i disabled all the 'sampling/16bit' options
But the sound is still pausing, realplayer keeps needing to reload at regular intervals, 30 secs to 1 min.

I've 1g ram and nothing else running, so it's not PC performance issue & i checked device manager and no Sound issues there, and my web broadband ntl connection is fine.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions
