Tactical trip to Fort Bragg/VA Beach

Just got back this morning from a fantastic trip to Virginia Beach to work with some of the Dev Group Navy SEALS and then on to North Carolina to work with the 82nd Airborne, 3rd and 7th Group Green Berets/Special Forces. I got short notice but got the flight fairly cheap and couldn't miss out on an opportunity like this. Landed in Philly and met up with Tuhon Tom Kier last Saturday and went straight to Virginia Beach (friggin approx 5 hour drive after that flight!!) and hooked up with 2 of the SEALS off base and worked with them next day for a few hours on some of the new Tactical material and then the following morning for a short while on the Tactical Hawk.

Then, it was another 4/5 hour drive to North Carolina and meet up with some more of the team (which included Mike Jaco, of www.tacticalawareness.com Originator/Head Instructor for the Navy SEALS Combat Fighting Course and 24 years experience in the SEALS) and we went through some of the material we would be working for the following day. Next day, on base, at Fort Bragg was eventful to say the least with some of the SF guys called away to other duties and we worked with some guys from the 82nd Airborne, and had to finish a little early (we worked from 9am-2pm each day) as there was a huge changing of command cermoney which had to be moved into the gym we were using as it was lashing rain outside. Anyway over the next two days we worked with guys from 3rd and 7th Group Green Beret/Special Forces and these guys worked really hard putting in lots of reps and getting the material down real well. Apart from getting to work/assist people of this level it was made even better for the Sayoc Tactical team when Mike Jaco took us throught some Awareness/Moving Principles/Communications skills each day after we had finished training the Military. We also had Guro Travis Downing of the IMA Academy in California work some blade first aid and how to make up different types of kits. Finished late Thursday evening for a very nice approx 12 hour drive back to Philly before getting my flight home yesterday. Still it was definately work it for the experience. And its only another 10 days to Sama Sama in Florida!!!

That's great. Did you get down to Blackwater? (Always thougt it was funny that it's on "Puddin' Ridge Road"). The VA Beach tactical scene is the best.

    Hi Dave,

Sounds great! Scuttery1 is heading over the Krishna in England in a few days for their Eskrima summercamp and I am off to Croatia at the end of July to do Escrima for 7 days. Its nice to be able to consolidate stuff like this.

    Regards,

Yea, it was great guys and Coyote you KNOW we can't even mention Blackwater;) :D I travelled with Mike Jaco and Tuhon Tom the first day we were going to the base in case I might have trouble been the only non-national (that doesn't sound familiar, does it:)), but had no problem. However, the second day a very stern Morgan Freeman lookalike was on the gate and just glanced at the others ID, but was taking a good long look at mine (and me thinking, oh She-ite, I'm gonna have trouble here) and gives me a real serious look, suddenly passes back my passport and says "Top of the morning to ya!"

Hey Mick, talk about summer Escrima trips!!!

Sounds like a great experience Dave.

Training with guys who may have actually to use this stuff, or who have real world experience in very stressful situations.
