Ebay - Selling and Payment

    Hi,

I'm new to selling on ebay and am wondering what the Credit Card option means? I've sold one item using PayPal which seems ok but is it the best way to receive payment in your opinions? I'm thinking because I will probably use the money I receive to buy other things from ebay or online then it is, although there are some fees to be paid.

While I'm at it, what do ye normally do about Postal Insurance and Return Policies?

paypal will certainly attract more buyers but its pretty risky for a seller.
not only you ll have to pay fees but if paypal have any reason to doubt about
what you sold, they can freeze your account immediately and your money is in their hands.

best to use paypal... can also use it to withdraw to an irish bank account....

also these days people smell a rat when a buyer won't accept paypal... so might cost you not to offer it...

    Ok, I am offering PayPal.
But how exactly does the Credit Card option work? Would it not be less secure?

They go throught the payment methods with PayPal and Credit Card being two separate ones but they don't really say what Credit Card is.

I dunno really how that works .
I bought few things using a cc straight away.
One was from creative where i had to ring them,
the other one was from another computer seller which had one of those checkout
things which redirected me to something like free merchant
No idea on how to set one up

themire...there are a number of options available. Paypal probably represents the best option.

My advice is that you have a look at what they offer and possibly even ring their customer service to ask a few basic questions about what they offer and the fees involved. Have a look through their website also. Paypal is free if you are receiving payments from another Paypal account. If you want to receive credit card payments then you need to sign up for either a business or a premier account. In terms of withdrawing funds, this can be done to your bank account and I think that if you're withdrawing less than 100Euro you will be charged 1Euro, over that then it's free.

The main thing behind PayPal is that you never give out your credit card details if paying for something. You sign-up with PayPal and then you authorise PayPal to make payments to whomever without your CC details being passed on by PayPal.

Personally speaking I do not believe PayPal is risky at all and in terms of freezing accounts based on what you are selling, I don't believe this is the case. The only reason an account may be 'restricted' may be for dodgy activity. Having working previously in a internet betting company in a previous life, it was exactly the same, not freezing but safe-guarding. I'm sure that like the millions of people using PayPal out there you are looking for the most straight forward way in sending and receiving funds online. Shop around but deffinitely don't believe everything on these websites. The cheapest way is with a personal account.

There are other options out there but in terms of the number of people out there whom already have a PayPal account it probably represents the easiest as most people whom buy and sell online already have a PayPal account.

Not so much for buying but for accepting Paypal as a payment, it is risky. I immediately bank money after a a payment over £50 as the money will then be mine and Paypals to play around with should they decide to confiscate the money off you on a whim.

    Not true

i think that people will always consider paypal the safest method until they become victim of paypal.
I say this because i used to think the same thing.
As soon as you start selling stuff in bulk, they start to get suspicious ,its a fact
so you have to be prepared to have the details of your supplier always ready.
I've heard stories of people selling parts of their cars and got their account blocked ; they didnt have a supplier and no proof that they had the goods since they were sent already.

An interesting mp3 can be found here:

A guy decided to record a phone call to paypal
