    PPP $5 6 max

    Odd tactics observed.

Villian plays almost every hand, and I mean every - regardless of position.

    PF: Min Raise
Flop: Raise to 480 (even after a level change)
    Turn: 400
    River: 400

He amasses a monster stack before someone calls him down, and (suprise) he has none of it at showdown. (oddly enough doesn't muck his hand)

At this point there are 3 of us trying to knock him out - he's facing all-ins if anyone has some of the flop, but it's an uphill battle as we tighten up to be sure we are ahead. He eventually goes out 3rd, damaging me along the way (he actually had AA, on K high flop)

Any ideas on tackling this type of looney, and spotting him well early before he hoovers up all the chips.

Basically you can only take this guy on with solid credentials. You have zero fold equity against him. So, solid hands and the Rope-A-Dope system.
Spotting him early - for starters you use player notes so you recognise him next time.
Its not a huge problem if he hoovers up chips. In fact ideally you would be happy if he knocks the other 4 players out and has a 10000v2000 h2h lead against you, if his play is that dreadful you should consider yourself still a fav.

Lol, that's exactly what I thought and exactly how he plays. And it works! So how bad can it be.

He needed to tighten up a little once he was called and i prefer to raise to 2.5 blinds not min raise but as long as you dont do this for blinds of 10-20-50-100 this is a fine way to play a shorthanded tournament particularily late on
