    hi all,

I have been biking for 6 years and for the first time since I started biking I'm in a position to get a new one. So I look aroudn and decide on a cbr1000rr in silver/black

    http://www.mcnews.com.au/NewBikeCatalogue/2006/honda/road/cbr1000rr/cbr1000rr_2006_silver_rhs_700p.jpg

You would think choosing the bike was the hard part. Not so. Rang 11 Honda bike dealers in Ireland. ELEVEN. Guess what??? I can't have it. Apparently Honda Ireland is only importing the uglier black/red colour scheme which im not interested in. So I ring the importers and tell them I want one. They told me "sorry we choose not to import that one" so tough.

BTW these colour schemes are available by EVERY dealer in the UK

There really isnt puke enough in the world for these people.

Aren't you lucky you chose Honda, if that was a Suzuki they'd prolly ask you what that was, take months to even order it then get you the wrong colour anyway, once took 3 months to get an exhaust for a Suzuki from the Irish system where as if it had been Honda would have had it the following week.

As BabyBundy suggests go to England and import it into here yourself then take a photo and send it to the twits in Honda, in fact why not write to Honda Japan and complain/raise some noise might not do anything but would make you feel better!

Shops in England/Wales will be perfectly happy to sell you one for export.

I can prolly hook you up with an importer who may be able to get that specific bike for you.

    Please PM if your interested.

thanks for the suggestions guys, but after paying over 15K for a bike I would want some good dealer service to go with that. doesn't look likely though........

In fairness, some of the dealers do give a really good aftersales etc, the problem in this country is the importers..

...tbh, there's no connection between sales and service. Where one ends, the other begins, and never 'twain shall they meet' etc etc.

Meskill motorcycles in Limerick, fr'instance, offer all the usual bikes - and parallel imports - so, you get 'foreign' choices, at good prices, but you get to keep the service you're looking for.

I'd be surprised if there's no dealer in Dublin selling parallel imports new, either. Mind you, Meskill would still be cheaper...........

I got this same attitude from Bikeworld when looking for my Aprilia - and even went to Dublin, but they wouldn't give a test ride. I bought my bike over the internet, from a dealer in the UK, and had it delivered by truck. Easy, simple, cheaper.

Give John Elliott in the Italian centre a buzz(018721624)....if he cant sort you out with the official honda you want then nobody can and tis a trip to england for ya :)

His level of service/customer support is second to none i reckons...I bought my sv off him new in 05 and i can't complain in the slightest...he's always made every effort to see me next morning or afternoon if i wanted a service or tyres or had a query on anything to do with bikes.

Fwiw a honda bought anywhere is still a honda and has to be covered by warranty. Otherwise if you move to england your warranty would be void? Nope.

John did some warranty work on a mates bike earlier in the year....bike was bought in bikeworld, but honda had no problem in allowing john do the work instead, due reputation.

For the record..he's also now the sole official importer of Benelli into Ireland...bikes, parts and servicing.

You could also arrange a test ride with him.....a neuvocento(sp?) would cost less then a fireblade, but probably be the same in ins......so you'ld have cash to spare to trick it out a bit....or buy a new lid, or a holiday maybe :)

Are you on commision from the Italian centre james ;)

lol i should probably discuss terms with him,but..no im not.
Im just very happy with the service i've gotten...i've never found anyone as upstanding and honest and decent when it comes to providing a service...let alone wrt motorbikes.

I got so ripped off when i started biking out of naievity(sp?) that its refreshing to find a place that has no time for bull**** or overcharging to make a quick buck.

I'll second everything that James has said about the Italian Center. I wouldn't consider going anywhere else. I meant to mention him earlier but I didn't have the number to hand (I usually just show up and ask john about stuff in person).

He is the most honest person in the motoring trade, including motorcycle garages, dealerships, car garages and dealerships, tow trucks, the AA, petrol station staff and everybody else.

...on the warranty note. The manufacturer has to pay for warranty work, it is their fault, after all. That's why there SHOULD be no problem with buying a bike anywhere in Europe - it's an EU ruling, iirc.......... applies to cars etc too.

I had a new BeeEmm in 00, bought in Germany, and had warranty work done on it here f.o.c. by local dealer, no problem. The dealers just invoice BMW (or Honda or Yamaha etc etc) - it's all money earned to them, just that you're not paying for it, so there shouldn't be a problem.

If, on the other hand, they were antsy-pantsy about it, well, that's just stupid and are proving correct in not buying it off them in the first place.......
