    Guys/gals
ive been messing around with various hard drives on my main computer.
mainly Ive been installing Xp on them for laptop, daughteretc. now on mymain system I get a screen asking me to choose between the 4 copies of xp and 3 failed installs on my machine, how can I get rid of these.... any help welcome.
my comp is starting to act wierd (like installing a scsi controller I dont have and several scsi cd-roms and hard drives) I think the mobo is on the way out but Id like to clean it up before I open it up for surgery.....please no format/clean install suggestions, im expecting much better from my fellow boardsies:p plus id have to buy another HD to back it all up, although i do have the really important stuff backed up.

Start Run type "msconfig" click on Boot and check all boot paths.

    Should remove the crap ones.

You can also just edit boot.ini (hidden file) in your root directory of whatever partition you boot from (C: in most cases).

Yea but Kdjac's method does it automatically. It will detect the false entries and remove. Much simplier and quicker. Espec if someone is a noob and not confident to fiddle with config files manually.

slightly related : to decrease time that message shows ,or to change default OS, or to get into edit the boot.ini :

properties of my computer, advanced, then select startup and recovery dettings. ( XP, win 2k pretty much the same )
