Training as opposed to lecturing

I've been involved in technical training for many years where I have taken groups of engineers and brought them through both practical and theoretical material.

(This was secondary to my main role as an engineering manager.)

I'm wondering if this might be considered relevant "experience" for a teaching/lecturing postion at third level in an IT ?

    It would certainly help.

The main experience they are looking for is the subject matter - if you have experience delivering this subject matter in a training environment, well all the better. I started off training in a corporate environment and moved into part-time lecturing, then on to full-time.

My advice would be to apply for part-time (evening) lecturing positions and take it from there.

You'd say then that the main expierence required is in the material itself rather than in the mechanics of passing that material on to others ?

    Yes.

I assume the logic is that if you know your stuff, you should be able to lecture in it. They generally put lecturing/training experience in the "desirable" section of the job advertisement.
