a float is when you call a bet with no outs planning on taking it off someone at a later stage, this flop play is called "drawing to a straight on a paired board"

given the river was checked to you I think you have to bet, no reason to think your opponent has a heart. In fact given the pot size it looks like you werent called.

On this board I would be much less inclined to bluff if the flush misses because people will put you on a missed flush draw.

I don't have pot odds to draw and on the flop I have him on missed overs more then anything else, hence I called it a float. Its a float with outs/semantics.

Could you elaborate on this please, don't quite get you.

Say your opponent reads you for a flush draw. The flush doesn't come, and when he checks you bet. Now he reads you for a busted flush draw, and calls.

Ya but at what point in the hand is he going to do that? On the turn?

Why would he check the turn if the flushcard didn't come?

Edit: unless he was giving up.

as you don't know what hand he has, it's almost impossible to answer that question. There are various hands that he could have that he may decide to check the turn with if a non-flush card came - a made house, overcards, an overpair, a flush-draw. The annoying thing about your opponents is that they don't play all hands in an identical fashion (of course, nor do you), so there's no telling what he would have done if the hand had played out differently.

I can't see him calling on anything other than a highish heart... worth a bet on that post size....

    Marq,

Most likely KKish hands won't check a blank turn here. Flush draw might but we're HU here, its not my primary concern.

My point is, the most common reason he would check a blank (or flushcard) turn is that his overcards missed and he was giving up, at whch point a bet from me is correct.

Seen lots of players play it like this. Big preflop bet, miss flop, bet at it, called, check 4-flush on turn cause they want to see how much you bet and they have to call to hit their flush (or you they hope you check giving them a free card), bingo.

They think your only calling the preflop raise with big cards and the board doesnt scare them till the river and he has a A anyway blah-de-blah etc etc
