Fallon Interviewed

CHAMPION Irish jockey Kieren Fallon has been re-interviewed over allegations of involvement in a major race-fixing scam.

It is understood the Clare jockey was questioned in recent days by London police in connection with his alleged links to a shady betting syndicate.

London City police confirmed that a licensed jockey was one of three people questioned by them in connection with an ongoing race-fixing probe. They said the three people, already on police bail until July 3 along with 24 others, were called in to "help police with their inquiries".

No one has yet been charged.

Fallon has previously been questioned by British police as part of an investigation spanning two years.

The UK-based jockey was among 27 people arrested in 2004 after a Sunday tabloid alleged he was involved in a suspected race-fixing syndicate. Numerous dawn arrests were made in Yorkshire, Cumbria, and Hertfordshire following the claims.

Detectives are investigating a long series of alleged frauds covering more than 80 races around Britain. The probe centres on records of irregular betting at race courses provided by the internet website, Betfair, to police.

Three jockeys, including Fallon and one trainer, are among the 27 being investigated and who are currently on police bail.

Although he has few equals in the saddle, the Ballinruan man's rollercoaster racing career has been dogged by rumour.

He was famously handed a six-month ban for violent conduct in 1994 when he pulled a fellow jockey off a horse at Beverley.

Yet, racing critics agree that Mr Fallon is in a class of his own on the turf.
