Getting the cold shoulder

Getting very strange vibes recently at work...

Have just read on internet the warning signs about getting fired and some of them, not all though, apply to my current situation (or else i'm just being downright paranoid).

Normally, if you make a big blooper, you have to be warned in writing first, right? I haven't got any warnings as yet, although I have been making a couple of errors here and there recently (nothing serious enough to get me fired).

Before things get any further... and I am optimistic that I can prevent myself from getting fired... what strategies would you employ in my situation?

    Don't make mistakes.

Check, check and check everything you do, make sure its right

    Don't sacrifice accuracy for speed.

if you need a hand then ask

    You're probably just being paranoid.

If I were you, I'd ask my manager/whoever if they have a minute. Go into the conference room and ask is everything OK. Ask how can you improve in your job.

Worst case scenario you'll know where you stand...

first off, without you giving any indication of what these vibes are, its hard for anyone to give you any real feedback.

personally, i would be off the opinion that if you dont think youre going to be fired, then youre probably not.

there may be other things going on that you are not aware of at a higher level that are taking peoples concentration, and you are just picking up on this and are projecting it onto your own performance.

the easy way to not get fired is to make sure you dont do anything that will get you fired. its pretty simple really. do your work, do it well, make sure eveyone that needs to know is in the loop as to where you are, what your issues are, and what the outcomes are going to be.

you could also book yourself a 1-2-1 with your manager for a chat, and just get an update on how youre doing, what your manager feels you can improve on, and just guage how you are getting on.

there should be a dismissal proceedure, which normally follows some kind of warning route. but all companies are different. instant dismissal is usually only for gross misconduct, not poor performance.

esperanza yes i understand what you are saying. if you do not get any warnings and you are making what you may consider "significant" mistakes, then they may be planning to get rid of you. Is your probabition period over?
    Just be wary is all.

What exactly is leading you to this conclusion?? What kind of mistakes are you making?
