    Hi Folks,
I'm heading (down from the north:)) to a gig in Whelan's on Friday, and I'm thinking about bringing my camera to the gig. What are the lights like in Whelan's? Any good?
I already have a good few photos of the guy playing, so I don't mind not taking the camera to the gig really.

Also - you should all go to it! Come say hello to me and watch a bloody fantastic show at the same time!

The venue tends to be very dark (50-100 lux?) and the lights a bit mixed so the stage could be anything from (300-1,000+ lux) with a lot of shadows and contrast.

B'ah! Quit this roadie talk! Would there be any spotlights etc, or anything else to add atmosphere to a photograph?

    Cheers,
    Steve.

    :p

Yes there are spotlights (with cull-urs) and expect lots of shadow. :) A friends wife took loads of shots there. Just watch you expose time withthe darkness.

it isnt the best for shots you'd prob need some sort of flash or a nice 50mm 1.8 to help ya. i've been there shooting a few times and i dread it(slattery's is worst but only marginally)

Ah it's not too bad! You can get up pretty close to the band in there too...And right under them...If you're into that kinda thing ;)
