The new one is a 280 i think. Haven't driven it
    Loved the old ML270cdi.
    Great comfort plenty of power.
What ever you do make sure you get an auto
If you get the manual (rare but do unfortunately exist) you'll regret it ever day of your life

Heard that about the old model alright. They were built in the US weren't they?

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Was driving the ML320 petrol auto for a bit in the US. Can't say much in it's favour but then, hey it's a SUV, most of them drive like a sack of spuds. All petrols are automatic afaik

The build quality on these was awful. Probably because they were built in the US instead of Europa. The first recent Mercedes to start dragging down the quality image it had deservedly built up in over 100 years. Sad :(

I'd rather spend my money on a Range Rover or BMW X5 to be honest. Superior machines in every department but not cheap by any means.

would you not look at a toyota land cruiser or prado? perhaps a mitsubishi pajero even?

The 2001> models were quite a bit better, but a long way off where they should have been for the money. The 270 is regardede as the worst engine in Mercs range. They can give problems !

    Deffo buy an auto.

Forget Range Rovers unless you love watching tow truck work, also the diesel one is painfully slow so forget overtaking !

The 2004> X5 3.0d is a great machine but you will pay through the nose !

If you're not worried about fuel consumption a Lexus RX300 is a great alternative. far more refined, way better interior, and most are fully loaded.

Aim for the new model which gets 5 speed auto,
