    * 11.06.06 A Taste Of Rory, Slatterys Capel St, 8pm, 10e
    * 14.06.06 Sinner Boy, Whelans, 8pm, 14e
    * 16.06.06 Rory Gallagher memorial unveiling, Rory Gallagher Corner, Temple Bar, Dublin

    ---

    Rory Gallagher hits no 1!

    The legendary guitarist is back at number one, this time in the DVD charts, 21 years after his death.

    The DVD, Live at Montreux, which includes material from Rory's five solo shows at the famous Swiss jazz festival, currently tops the Irish DVD sales chart.

    The double disc set is also faring well abroad: it's at number 5 in the UK chart, number 6 in the Netherlands and number 15 in France.

    And the timing of the release couldn't be better - June 14 marks the 11th anniversary of the death of Gallagher, and there are a series of events planned to mark the occasion.

    A bronze sculpture of Rory's Fender Stratocaster guitar will be unveiled by Lord Mayor Catherine Byrne at Rory Gallagher Corner, in Dublin's Temple Bar. A free concert will follow at Meeting House Square.

    Cork, the city where Rory was brought up, is also paying tribute to him. An Cruiscin Lan It hosts three different shows this weekend (June 9-11), with bands from the UK, Germany and Italy playing alongside local acts. Tickets are €15 for each night, or €40 for all three.

    He got a bronze guitar, and a FREE outdoor concert. Utterly legend, in every respect, as usual.

    Havent seen the event promoted much, so doing my bit to forward it. His new DVD is out too, it's No1!!

    I hope I can get tickets, probably get them after work tomorrow.
    A new bronze sculpture of the late Rory Gallagher’s Fender ‘Stratocaster’ guitar will be unveiled next week by the Lord Mayor Councilor Catherine Byrne at Rory Gallagher Corner on a building developed and owned by Temple Bar Cultural Trust.

    Dermot McLaughlin, Chief Executive of Temple Bar Cultural Trust, said: “We are delighted to be involved in funding and supporting this project. The idea behind this new piece of public art is to celebrate and honor Rory Gallagher, a fantastic world class musician who played here in Temple Bar and who has a public corner named in his honor. The idea of having a guitar sculpture in this high profile location really takes this celebration up a level. The sculpture will attract thousands of visitors and fans and remind us of the huge contribution that creative artists like Rory have made to Ireland’s culture, confidence and reputation. Along with the Wall of Fame just around the corner on Temple Lane South, this sculpture will give visible and permanent recognition to one of our greatest musicians.”

    Located at Rory Gallagher Corner on East Essex Street, just beside Meeting House Square, the sculpture is the brainchild of music lover, instrument dealer and Rory Gallagher fan Mark Walsh of Keynote Music.

    Mr. Walsh said: “Rory was Ireland’s first Rock’n’Roll star, selling records and touring the world, blazing a trail for others to follow. As musical instrument sellers we owe our livelihood to him and the others who followed bringing Irish Rock to the world. Now as his beloved Cork, Paris, and Donegal have already done, Dublin honors one of Ireland’s greatest sons. Let’s remember Rory with this long overdue tribute.”

    Donal Gallagher, Rory’s brother and manager said ‘We are very honored by Temple Bar Cultural Trust’s gesture and for Mark Walsh’s perseverance and hard work in bringing this endeavor to fruition and not least the good citizens of Dublin for supporting this appropriate project. The timing is a perfect way to remember Rory at his 11th anniversary (14th June) and to celebrate DVD which is currently at no. 1 in the Irish charts’

    The Rory Gallagher Guitar Sculpture will be unveiled by the Lord Mayor Councilor Catherine Byrne at a free outdoor public ceremony at 8.30pm on Friday 16th June at Rory Gallagher Corner, Meeting House Square, Temple Bar Dublin 2. After the unveiling there will be a free outdoor concert on the Square.

    Admission is free but tickets are ESSENTIAL!
    Tickets can be collected from today from the Temple Bar Cultural Information Centre, 12 East Essex Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 2. There is a limit of 4 tickets per person.

    OPENING HOURS
    Monday to Friday 9- 7
    Saturday 10 – 6
    Sunday & Bank Holidays 12 – 6

    For further information on this event please contact Mark Walsh at 087 6825 489.

    Anyone else notice hotpress' mistake? "21 years after his death", "celebrating 11 year anniversary of his death" Erk?

    Nope, I'd guess Sinner Boy though, considering they were here last night!

    A Taste of Rory are playing it. One of my favorite Rory bands tbh!

    I got 12 tickets today [meant to be 4per person, but ya know!], going with a load of mates and some family. Apparently the Edge from U2 is doing something with it. I just wanna meet Donal [his bro/manager] and be there for the general buzz. Should be absolutely packed.

    The guitar is already up on the wall. I was under the impression it was going to be bronzed, but its not. Looks great though :)

    Can someone change the topic name to be somethign more relavent, like the fact the gig is on tomorrow!? :)

    It's right between Charlies [the food place] and Badbobs at the back of Temple Bar.

    You need a ticket, as it says in the above posts, it's entrance at 8.30, kicking off at 9.
