Betfair have launched their Java based mobile service.

I've downloaded the software to my Nokia 7250i but it won't let me log in.

Has anyone managed to use this service successfully? Greaet concept if it worked!

Their website states it's only available in the UK at the moment so that's probably why you can't login.

ErinGoBrath, I think the problem you were having logging in was to do with your password. Your password must be at least 8 characters long containing both numbers and letters. If it is not you will have to go to the main betfair website and change it.

I had the same issue but can log in now.

Can it be downloaded to most handsets?

It seems so, there is a list on the website but I would guess any handset that can handle GPRS should be fine. I've a Nokia 6230i which it works fine on.

How much does it cost to download? Are there any ongoing costs?

Nice one. My password is less than eight digits. I'll have to change it when I get home. What's the program like? Good?

There are no costs from Betfair, the only cost incurred are from your mobile provider. I think it cost me around €2.50 to download, I'm with meteor who charge 2c per kb. I went in and navigate around a few menus and eventually went to the 3:55 at Newbury and backed a horse, it cost around 40 cent.

It works much the same as the normal betfair. obviously not as much info can be displayed so it is broken into a number of screens. First you select the Sport, then the meeting, then the race. You then get a display of the best availaible back/lay odds for each horse (only 1 field on either side). To back a horse you have to select it and it give you full price information for that horse. You then select your price and amount and bet.

The one downside is you cannot move from race to race easily as you need to back up to the horse racing menu and reselect a different race or meeting. There is a my markets feature similar to the online site, it doesn't take your my market settings from the online site though.
