I would appreciate it if you could post your comments here about the photo's and let me know where I should improve on or focus more on.

Just a note to anyone posting images in future, there is now a rough set of guidelines i'd like people to read before posting any images for critique.

Like your dublin park photo ,nice layout and saturation.

Good idea Rymus ,I read through myself so as not to put the foot in it.

    Thanks

Are they that bad that they don't deserve a comment?

i like the roses one, the last one, lovely composition, the 7th lock, is nice but its very overcast and slightly off center for such a symetric image, maybe a bit of brightening up could improve it but over all nice shots, well done, cant wait to see more

    Good start :)

Yup I agree with previous comments , the seveth lock photos are both well composed, but if they had been taken on a brighter day/ increased exposure would be better.
Could you have taken the last roses one so the pond was in the background? It would have given a nice out of focus green backdrop to your pic.
I like the roses in bloom and Dublin park ones most.

Could I ask - what course you're doing and what camera you used? (I'm starting a digitl camera course in August in Temple Bar)

Stone Bridge and the 7th Lock with the reall short depth of field are quite nice.

I think you have to be a bit more selective with your cropping, but I do like your short DOF's!

    Thanks for all your comments.
Will take the advice on board and hopefully things will get better.

The course I was on is the following,

The camera I was using was a Nikon D50.

    hey Jason!
my opinion for what it is worth!.........you've got the eye! perhaps as whats been commented on - crop; don't be afraid to crop tight at times for instance - the one legged bird!! go for a close crop on this might make a more interesting composition, i notice from the exif data most of these were taken at or near mid-day, outdoor shots aren't great at this time, try early or late evening - much better light so they say!!
composition - take a little time to see what the camera sees all that stuff!!
but most important - enjoy it yourself
    have funn
    :)

    Hi All,

this is Jason's tutor from the weekend course he took in Beginners Digital Photography.

Jason has a keen eye for photography. I was very impressed with the quality of his work. He actually took 110 shots on the Saturday and 57 on the Sunday and this with a sports injury to boot!

I think Jason should show more of those shots up on Flickr because there were quite a few as good, if not better, than the ones he is currently showing.

Keep up the good work. Only by taking photographs do we get better at photography.

    Dave

    Thanks Dave,

Plan on uploading more photo's over the next few nights.
Not a lot else I can do at the moment, so should have loads of time.

For those of you out there thinking about doing a photography course, I would highly recommend Dave's course. I found it very interesting and beneficial.

    Cheers,

    Jason.

Yup they definitely have an instinctively good compositional element I'd say. I think what lets some down is the flatness of the light and that's out of everyone's control... the one that sticks out to me is the bird on the steps, since it's a nice, strong, graphic picture. I also like the 7th lock one with the shallow DOF, showing up the texture on the paint in the foreground.

If there are more to be had then get them up there!

It's like a muscle...you have to keep working it to make it stronger.... (I sound like my old teachers, uh oh)

Posted another couple of pics on my Flickr.

Some from during the course, and a few others from when I really didn'y know what I was doing.

    Comments welcome.
