Who is the property developer at the centre of this story today? http://www.rte.ie/news/2006/0612/phonetapping.html

I'd like to know; RTE can't name him for "legal reasons".

Isn't it ironic that the law that is supposed to seek and uphold the truth actually serves to obscure and hide it? But that's another debate....

I'd like to know who this is..... if anyones got any ideas.

    Thanks

Thread locked; if RTÉ can't name somebody for legal reasons, what makes you think boards.ie can?

If RTÉ, or anyone named the person under investigation it could bias any potential trial; you cannot name someone arrested in connection to a crime, or under investigation until they are charged; that is part of the right to an honest reputation people have; connecting them to a crime when a strong enough case may not exist (perhaps because they're innocent?) would deny them that right and would also potential bias people against them, even if the evidence was flimsy.
In other words if the person in question is named now, and they are in fact guilty then justice could never be done as the case would be thrown out once it reached court.
The law are simply rules, the justice system upholds the law; no name is being obscured, you can be assured that if this person is charged they will be named promptly.
