I just heard that theres a programme on the wireless tonight that might be of interest to some.

    Preview
    Cardroom
They are called 'card clubs', 'gambling clubs' or casinos. The Irish government is against them in their current form and wants to close them down. The operators say the government is over-reacting and is behind the times.

Who uses them and why? Ronan Kelly reports from a card club in a former Dublin church.

    First broadcast: 8pm June 12th., 2006

Sounds a bit sacriligious. Where's that then? :)

I think the football wins at 8 pm.

"See Jane. Jane plays cards. Jane puts down her chips. Jane wins. Well done Jane. See Dick. Dick watches cricket. Dick goes to play cards."

    Jesus.

LOL, did Teddy Hickson steal that quote from you? I've recorded this, but I've no way of ripping it from my player until tomorrow. I'll stick it in as an attachment then, if anyone wants (and assuming it's not against any forum rules???). Nothing spectacular in it tbh; people interviewed include Alex, Doc, Lesley, Mick, Paddy Hicks, Margaret, the great Luke, Nick the dealer, Teddy Hickson, and a few others.

oh the humanity! the god given humanity!

EVERTHING was taken out of context!

I will say this while I have your attention:

the writer/editor of the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, Soygal Rinpoche, is giving a talk in the Helix in DCU on the 20th. I believe the tickets are for sale in Wicklow st in the Rigpa est. next to tower records in wicklow st.

i know very little about anything but if you have an open mind and a big ego i recommend coming along to this.

    anyhoo, d.

'frank hunt? frank hunt for omaha! anyone find frank hunt?'

ty, very much, glad to see you've gotten over your deep resentment towards me.

whats ur name anyway? I can't keep calling you my sarcastic stalker.

    ur pal, d.

Just listened to that there. The interviewer was an idiot, but aside from that I suppose it might have worked to demythify the whole casino thing for a few people, but there was definitely a big emphasis on the negatives. I thought Scott Gray, Paddy Hicks, Leslie McClean and Nick the dealer were all very good on it. Des you came across as some sort of scumbag that heads there to mug old people like Alex and Margaret!:p

Was that Scott?? I thought they were talking about a Scot, and couldn't figure out who it was.

I think that I could identify every player they talked to apart from the random american and italian types at the blackjack/roulette. Shows I might need to stay in more :o
