    I have recently bought a Cannon 350D with a Tamaron 17 - 35mm lens for landscape photography,
I was just wondering if anyone would be able to advise me on a telescopic lens for pictures of horse racing from a distance or bird watching Etc..
was just wondering if their was a lens out there that's not to expensive, what could I get for say 300 - 500 euros or if need be 600 - 800 euros.

Any info would be greatly appreciated

In the Canon range the EF 70-200mm f/4.0 L might suit, it's about €680.00 from Digital Wonderland in Germany
I don't really know about any of the alternatives

ya looks good, i was also looking at tamron lens, both 70-200mm and 28-300mm.
they have an AF mount, what is the differance between an AF and EF mount?

iv'e read someplace that EF stands for 'electro-focus' - Canon’s technical designation.
all EF lens are autofocus - AF afaik, sometimes you see EF lenses or non Canon lenses referred to as AF lenses

If you are looking for reach ,get a sigma 70-300

It fit's the camera nicely and you won't need a battery grip.
I've got the 70-200 and find it a little short ,field of view on the 350D is not great either.

I have a Sigma 70-300 APO and loving it. You'll want the extra reach compared to a 200mm lens and this lens is only 200 euro, it's great value imho! If you're new to photography I don't think you should be wasting money on expensive Canon L lenses just yet.

    Thanks lads,

The Sigma sounds good, been doing a bit of looking up on it.
Could definitely do with the extra reach i'd say.

As above RE: the 70-300! After a while, should you still want to do wildlife, and need more reach, the 50-500 is a good choice!
