I'm not one who can "talk the talk" of scrapyards, so I was wondering does anybody have good scrapyards that they could recommend. Lots of the scrapyards don't let you rummage around by yourself and this is a must for classic car types. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

we went for a rummage a few years back, road up in west finglas. there must be 10 of them in a row. mainly settled travellers with huge yards out the back. one or two werent keen to let us wander around but the others all were. to be honest there wasnt much at all. mainly 80's rot boxes that have been raped of anything worthwhile. not much of an answer to your question, but i spose it will save you wasting an afternoon ;)

I'm not a poster in the classic cars section but might be able to help.

We went to scrap yards last week and were looking to do the same as you and rummage around having a gander for parts we needed for 4 different cars.

We were informed that policies on going in for a wander or a look have been changed due to health and safety issues so now people are no longer allowed to do it.

We needed several bits for different cars (not classics) and after listing out X bits for car 1, Y bits for car 2 etc, buy the time most of them had looked for bits for car 1, they were fed up and told us to go look ourselves. so much for their health and safety but we did come out with all the parts we needed.

Maybe try something like that if they dont let you rummage.

As for recommending scrapyards I've been to them all over the country so cant think of one in Dublin just when I want to.

Someone else might be more helpful with that.
