Have access to about 12 acres of land that i thought about growing some rapeseed oil on. Does anyone know any internet sites where i could get some more info. on margins etc and who to contact.

if you know of any news articles etc of anybody doing these things would be great.

    thanks,

The Teagasc webite has some figures on corps costs and returns. Can't remember if rapeseed was one of the crops though.

There's a good table here on journeytoforever that would seem to suggest that you can expect a yield of approximately 5000 litres of oil from your twelve acres. By the time you take into account costs for renting the land (if applicable), sowing and harvesting and pressing the crop I cant see there being much money in it. Then again there may be EU grants or whatever for it, I dont know much about growing crops in this country.

Thanks guys. Found a website last month but just cant find it again. I think it was a company that sold the seed and harvested the crop for you etc. I have 12 acres to use and even if i broke even i would love to give it a go. Besides you cant beat a field of rapeseed.

Hi Phoenix Nights, just wondering if you planted your rapeseed or got more information, my boyfriend has about 25 acres of land that isn't being used for anything and we were considering rapeseed as well.

Sorry to hijack the rapeseed thread, but forestry planted on the 25 acres would offer some competitive prices. Companies such as Green Belt would be able to advise you more on the matter.

I don't think you can grow rapeseed on the same land for 2 consecutive seasons.
But I am willing to be corrected on this.
