Works out alot cheaper then Dells cheapest home pc, even with a crt monitor.

Its a Patriot Celeron system, 256mb ram, 40gig hard drive, integrated gfx, WinXP home.... basically a nice pc for a family who uses the computer for internet, music, dvds, etc. Comes with a 14" tft screen....all for 399 euro, not bad at all...

clearing dead stock for the advent of vista. 40 gig???, integrated graphics? unless the family were all above 50, this pc is gonna disappoint

Yeah well as I said, its obviously for net browsing, dvd playing, music, whatever....DELLs cheapest option is similarly spec'd, more expensive and only comes with a crt monitor. No matter what way you look at it, this is a bargin

Nothing stoping them putting a 512 stick of ram and a cheap fx5200 into it!
I suspect that this model would be similar in spec to the lower end Dell's and probably doesn't have an AGP (or PCI-ex) slot.

Probably yes, but you can get a pci fx5200, given the rest of the specs anything over a 128mb pci card would be wasted anyway. You only get what you pay for - and I think this pc is a bargin for a family you only want a computer for internet, typing etc, much cheaper then what dell would offer. Was tempted to pick it up myself to throw a cheap tv tuner card and some extras into for watching tv in my room, browsing net or playing xbox!

Got a PC from the Dell Outlet store for €318 (inc VAT & Del) last week.

    Celeron 2800, 512, DVD/CDRW, 80Gig. The only thing lacking was a monitor I didn't need.

Some great bargains to be had there if you keep an eye out.

Yeah some great bargins there, only problem is trying to catch one lol. The only thing great about the one in PC world is that it comes with a 14" tft....it it came with a crt monitor it'd be nothing special at all!!

mmm, interesting but, I was in my local PC world in Sligo last week and saw it for 379 Euro with a 17" CRT and 599 for a TFT. 14" would be a very small size monitor.

when asking about prices of TFT monitors a few weeks back they quoted 149 for a 14" TFT 199.00 for 15" and 299 for 17" TFT.

Just checked Dell.ie and they have a Celeron Dimension 3100c 512MB 80GB 17" TFT for 479 - I would rather go for the Dell myself than the PCworld Patriot PC.

Its a shame the PCworld.ie website don't have a more comprehensive run down of their PC's
