    Hey all,
So last night I finished reading (is that the right word?) V for Vendetta and I really liked it! I mean I thought the film was cool but the book/graphic novel/? is really something :) So now I'm thinking I may even like other graphic novels/comics if they were put in front of me. Thing is, apart from Alan Moore's other work (which I've been told I desperately need to get my hands on) and maybe the Sin City stuff cos I did like the film, I haven't the foggiest idea where to begin :o Anybody out there got any advice on basic must-have reading material of a comic persuasion for a newbie like myself? Like a relatively painless intro to the world of comics? Any advice appreciated :D And appologies if I messed up on the lingo or am just after starting the most stupid thread in the history of the forum! Jack.

I'm guessing you like kind of crime stuff rather than superheros? So immediate gems that spring to mind are Dave Lapham's Stray Bullets and 100 Bullets by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso. 100 Bullets is probably a lot easier to find but both are a good read, in my opinion better than Alan Moore (but then I think he's generally very over-rated) and Frank Miller.

Um...no major issue with superheroes, but figuring out which superhero comics to poke at seems especially daunting! There are so many...

The Authority might suit you, I haven't read it in years though but it's aimed at mature readers rather than the general readership Superman, batman etc expect. Other than that if you look around a comic shop there's tons of superhero books without a huge amout of history behind them that you might try to see what suits you. Or just stick to trades most focus on a single story or storyline without too much history involved.

Warren Ellis' transmet is wonderful a sample there for you.

I would suggest that you use wiki and lookin up alan moore and frank millar and Warren ellis and go from there.

Garth Ennis is another one to add to that list. I'm trying to avoid making lists of suggested stuff as if we all do that, we'll end up with a list of about 5000 books which it'll take the OP months to get through (and at the end of all that she still might not like any of them! ;))

Transmet should be heading your way soon as well (assuming you can convince Tree to let go of it when she's finished reading it, that is...)
