I bought a Linksys WRT54GS (Ver 4) Router and used 3rd party firmware that let it be used as a Wireless Bridge so now have my 360 and Dreambox (sat receiver) working off it, PC World where selling them for 65 euros.

    Cheers

no, only way to go wireless on the 360 is using a wireless ethernet router/or bridge, or the official MS branded usb dongle.

spent some time researching this, and here's what I've come up with and what I'll be going with :)

Linksys have a few different routers, WRT54G, WRT54GS and WRT54GL

    the G & S , has firmware versions from 1-7 ( S boxes have more memory)
the L, has firmware versions 1.0 and 1.1.

http://www.dd-wrt.com seems to be the most popular firmware but there are loads of others, they also have an excellent wiki.

Linksys have linux on the G & S boxes for firmware 1-4, 5-7 is a vxworks based firmware. So to get most of the 3rd party firmware to work you need to get a box with firmware 1-4, ones with 5-7 are harder to get going.

It seems linksys had to release the code to gpl, so for firmwares 5-7 they changed to vxworks.

Linksys then later release the L box, with is linux again around the same time the G & S boxes got vxworks firmware. So http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=314078 will be the one I've just ordered.

I plan to install the dd-wrt firmware/setup wet bridging and their wiki has some good articiles on this. I have a 3com 54G wireless router upstairs and plan to put the linksys downstairs as a bridge. Will let you know how it goes.

    here's hoping...:D

OK heres what I did:- Check out Dixon/Currys and PC World for the WRT54GS and check serial number if they begin with CGN6 they are version 4 and are compatible, if they have CGN7 they are version 5 and not compatible. U might have to check a few different branches as they sold of them in Liffey Valley last week. The firmware I used can be found here http://www.thibor.co.uk/ pick the appropriate firmware for your model. Additional info can be found here http://www.dvrplayground.com/article/12254/;jsessionid=673204D929592F2E6CE448FD77D2F584 & here http://www.linksysinfo.org/ . It was a pretty painless excercise and u end up with a multiport wireless bridge!
