Been looking forward to this since reading the synopsis online at least a year ago now. Got quite a limited cinema release in the States but seems to be getting a wide release here on June 16th.
A mature 14-year old girl meets a charming 32-year old photographer on the Internet. Suspecting that he is a pedophile, she goes to his home in an attempt to expose him.

    Trailer here!

Ah yes, I posted up the trailer for this earlier this year, apparently there are a couple of leg crossing male sensitve scenes...

It looks well acted and the story is an interesting one and even though I'm not sure how old that chick is, I'm gonna rest my head on the chopping block and say she's a bit of a fox.

Read a couple of reviews that describes the film as having elements of Lolita and Audition. And that leg-crossing scene....

I've seen the trailer for this ages ago, and I thought it looked extremely intruiging, so I'm really looking forward to seeing it. Although I've heard far too many comparisons to Audition that lead me to speculate on what's going to happen in the film, but either way I'm just going to wait and see.

I'm also really looking forward to this because of director David Slade, as he's up for directing the adaptation of 30 Days Of Night, so I'm wondering what kind of atmosphere this guy can create, but that's a whole other topic altogether.

    She's 18, so you're safe. ;)

After reading a piece about this in Empire this month, I'm definately looking forward to it. Sounds a lot like Audition.

Excellent, didn't realise that. Been looking forward to 30 Days Of Night, especially since I heard that Sam Raimi was going to be producing. Another reason to check out Hard Candy.

I had heard nothing about this movie until reading a piece about it in this months Empire and it had me intrigued right away. That trailer just makes me wanna see it more. Looks very good and well acted. Cant wait

I saw a preview of this a while back and it's nothing spectacular. I hadn't heard anything about it but thought the story was pretty predictable. The acting is good, but again, not spectactular. Some people will love it, others won't really give it a second thought. Not bad, but not great.

saw this yesterday. Think the idea was better than the film, but still well worth watching. It s a bit predictable though.

Good question. I'd like to know that too.

just saw it. interesting to say the least. not really my cup of tea but the acting was brilliant

Does she tell him her real age in the film? Does she cut off his...bits?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,767 ✭✭✭Hugh Hefner

Have you seen the film and haven't figured things out or are you just asking?

    Either way:
She tricks him into thinking his balls have been cut off my using a big clip on his sack. She says she's 14 but you can't be sure that anything she says is the truth (including her name, as she points out).

    Thnx for that Heffner.

I saw the film this evening and i thought it was horrendous, the acting on the girls part was very overdone, with lines such as 'playtime's over' (i think i was the only one who sniggered when she said that) how could you take it seriously? i actually walked out of the film during the 'snip' scene. Overdone, Overrated, not my cup of tea at all, anybody else think it was rubbish?

Nope I thought it was great, the acting was brilliant, I thought the direction was well-handled,

    I give it 4 out of 5

I thought she was actually a very good actor and helped elevate the movie. How can you criticize her acting for the line "playtime's over"? Who on earth could deliver such a line? That's a script issue, not an acting one. In fact she made, for me, some otherwise clunky dialogue decent.

The film itself? It was fine, pretty much what I expected. The directing kept it all tense enough, with more frenetic energy than most of its Hollywood brethern. The script was probably the weakest point and I was able to guess certain elements within it. Nothing too bad however aside from unweildy lines (I agree with kevcelt on taking that line seriously but I didn't laugh because I don't like to interrupt the mood for others as some guy kept doing on Sunday).

Enjoyably enough way to kill 104 minutes.

I saw this all alone in the cinema on Friday. In fact it did'nt start till 40 minutes after the advertised time in the hope that more than one person would show up. It was the perfect atmosphere for the film.

The film was very good. Some of the dialogue was poor but the acting was good enough to cover this. The script was somewhat predictable, but the idea was good enough to keep me hooked all the way through. Some of the over dubbing was poorly done and distracted from the film, but apart from those small problems it was still an excellant film.

I enjoyed it other than the fact that there was no ending...

Cinematography was very good... liked the angles and the cameras they used. Yer wan wes very good... better than X-Men anyway :)

I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. I thought the acting was excellent for the most part although some scenes were slightly overacted. I must admit that I also noticed the dubbing which did annoy me a bit. For me the only poor point of the movie was the ending. I wasnt overly impressed by it.

    Still a very decent movie.
    7/10

I have not seen the movie - yet - so can something answer this question very basically for me without spoilers please?

Is the film violent/disturbing? Because the reviews I'm reading are not falling exactly in line with the advertisements I've seen hyping it as a disturbing and violent movie....

    Thanks

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,767 ✭✭✭Hugh Hefner

It's violent in the very general sense of the word, but it's not what you or I would call violent. It's not violent like Die Hard, but rather like La Haine (which has minimal violence). Basically, it's not physically violent.

Also, I didn't find it disturbing. It's the kind of thing that is described as disturbing just because you would think that something with the ideas of Hard Candy would be disturbing. It's more thought provoking and interesting to be honest.

Also saw this yesterday-thought I was going to really enjoy after first hour or so.Really felt it was let down by the ending.....I think her acting made the film, very impressed

    Only just seen this.

Hmm, the whole cat and mouse, the game plan, the viewer's choice of hero and villain.... glib throw away lines "Well, 4 out of 5 doctors agree that I am actually insane. " to reinforce her actions.

The 14 yr old Hayley, played by the very capable Ellen Page, is on a personal mission, as the game plan evolves, the slow and clever undermining of the male ego and mental security, the antagonistic, the unsettling ploys create a sympathy for the victim.

The mistakes by the capture, the sudden reversal of roles only to be re-instated and charged with a growing feeling of dismay.

The complete control is achieved and with a ending to re-instate the belief that a judgement is finalised with a cool and calm sense of victory

Ellen Page began her stage career at the age of ten and has become an impressive and accomplished actress.

The contrast between Hard Candy and Juno underline the ability and charisma of a very talented actress.
