    i looked through the free software post but i wasnt sure which programe i should use. i want to convert an mpeg4 file to wmv so i can upload it on a site. Any ideas where i would get a programme for it. i already tried windows media encoder but it doesnt seem to work. it keeps crashing on me.

    I think it should work, if you drag the MPEG4 into Window Movies maker and then drag the thumbnail onto the time line at the bottom. Now go up to File & select save movie from the menu, it will prompt for location etc. then do the conversion.

    Could be you don't have the correct decoders installed for it to work, install ffdshow and that may take care of it leave all the settings at their default value when installing ffdshow.

    it worked i loaded it into movie maker saved it and it was fine thanks for your help bud
