What if...?

    What if all the matches in one group end up 0-0.. very unlikely but what if..

    then what happens?

    There's probably a quick answer to this, but I just cant seem to think of one that makes sense. Seeing as it's the group stages there's no golden goal, or pens....

    Thanks!

    All four captains together in the centre-circle for a sumo-style wrestling match. Last one still in the circle tops the group, second last gets runners-up spot.

    Just thinking of some of the match ups now, that'd be great.

    Probably draw lots. I remember in WC90 we finished on exactly the same record as Holland and the decision as to who came 2nd and who came 3rd was simply "names out of a hat"

    We came second and avoided West Germany :D

    Sure about that? That's kinda dodgy, grand for us like, but gammy for the Dutch

    Yeah, lots are still drawn if teams are equal under all criteria.

    It's never going to happen anyway so I doubt they've thought about it.

    I'm fairly sure its a playoff between an equal team, I don't know how it works in a three way.

    if you do the groups predictor on the BBC, if teams finish on the same points and goals scored/ conceded. the predictor itself draws lots to decide who finishes ahead of who.

    BVut i dont know if thats accurate or not :)

    the teams square-off in a horrendous 'Its-a-knockout' stylee finale. Thousands sue for emotional damages

    all 22 players head to the centre circle and play soggy biscuit, the "winners" win and the losers captain has to eat the biscuit.......................

    From the rules:

    XVIII. TECHNICAL RULES FOR THE FINAL COMPETITION
    41

    The ranking of each team in each group will be determined as
    follows:
    a) greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
    b) goal difference in all group matches;
    c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.
    If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria,
    their rankings will be determined as follows:
    d) greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between
    the teams concerned;
    e) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the
    teams concerned;
    f) greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the
    teams concerned;
    g) drawing of lots by the Organising Committee for the FIFA World
    Cup™.

    Hmm, the playoff thing is the the qualifiers stage.

    Can you really imagine a group where none of the four teams would score?

    It would make for some great entertainment in the last 5 minutes of this mythical group.... even the weakest of teams would be busting a gut to stick one away and top the flippin group!!.... there would be coaches having a freak attack on the halfway line. Pity it will never happen...... or will it :eek:
