Radeon Drivers Suck

I'm currently using the Radeon display driver 6.14.10.6483 for my Radeon 9800PRO. A bit out of date eh? Well it's because my PC has heart failure when i try to update it.

I downloaded the Framework and Display driver and rebooted twice, both times my PC ran extremly slow, with windows loading down like you were viewing a downloading image off the internet. Icons on the desktop keep flashing, games will not run either saying "This video mode is not supported" or they just don't run without any messages. Has anyone a clue what might be going on?

    AMD 3500+, AV8 3rd Eye, 9800Pro AGP, 1024 RAM, 400GB RAID 0, XP pro.

Sounds like some sort of driver issue a rash of other driver updates could cure it.

    Chipset - Via drivers
    CPU - AMD CPU driver

Do you still have .NET 1.1 installed and is it patched up to date via Windows Update, while you're there at WU install the .NET 2.0 framework as well it can be found under the software, optional category if you go though the custom method.

Definitely install the above drivers but if the above doesn't fix the issue then download driver cleaner, uninstall your ATI display driver and control panel via the add/remove section in the control panel.

Reboot the computer as prompted when it restarts back into Windows ignore the prompt to install a driver and run driver cleaner so it will purge any remnants of the previous driver from the OS. Once its finished run the Catalyst 6.5 installer and see how it goes.

Get driver cleaner pro and nuke every trace of ATI and VIA. Then start again with the latest VIA hyperions, followed by a reboot, followed by a fresh .NET framework 2.0 install, followed by a reboot, followeb by newest radeons, followed by a reboot.

God I hate ATI and VIA.
