Hi does anyone know where I can get a 95 degree stopped hinge? It's for a jewellary box with a hinged lid that contains a mirror under neath. It will be attached to 13mm back piece and the under side of the lid as well. I need it about 17" long. Preferably in brass or the likes!

    Hi

It sounds like you're describing a piano hinge if it's continuos, try hafele in Wicklow, they have a website where you can browse the products, http://www.hafele.ie

Or Lee Valley in Canada have some great hardware that's unusual, not very convienient for now but they're worth a look for the future. There are a load of Irish suppliers, including hafele, MVI, Frank Flanagan fittings, NAA and others...

    Cheers

joe thats what I am looking for all right! Tried hafele but couldn't find anything like that on there! Would you happen to have any contact numbers for any of those other crowds you have listed?

    Cheers

    Hi galwaydude,

No luck yet with the hinge. You could try Oz:D

    Hi
Lee Valley are one of the few places I know that stock specialised high quality hinges that can be seen on the internet but they can be very expensive and it's no good for this job as cheaper shipping takes 10 weeks. I buy some stuff off them that I haven't been able to source elsewhere including locking chest clasps (lid opens upwards), small wooden turned items (shaker tie pins, gallery rail pegs) and excellent cam levers for jigs.

My buyers guide book suggests the following.
    Hafele (wicklow)
    Isaac Lord (?)
    Martin (?)
    McNamara Fittings (dublin)
    MVI (modern veneer importers, dublin)
NAA (also called Heittich or similar)
NEY Ireland (NI)(I didn't think these sold hardware but they were listed)
    A Kendrick & Sons (?)
    Unico Components (?)

Some of them should have something. Google it and there will definitely be UK suppliers, I can't find details on places I have come across in the past. I never need hardware of that quality.

Try Woodworkers in Dublin, they have a large range of everything bought in from many sources. Ring antique restorers for advice.

That's a lovely box on the kadman ubeaut link, I love the twin wedged exposed biscuit type things (dark stripes visible on the mitered corners)... but how does it work commercially??? Are there people who would pay €300 for a box like that or can they only be made as a hobby??? I'm guessing that that box took at least 15 hours to make and finish, some larger quality pieces may take 100's of hours.

    Cheers
    Joe
