I'm travelling to the US this summer, and I'm planning on visiting an apple tstore to pick up a Macbook Pro. I'm wondering can I use my Irish student card to get the discount This site seems to suggest I can, but it's old and I'd like to be sure. I emailed apple, but they were no help.

    Has anyone here tried this?

As far as I know, you can't. You have to be a student enrolled in a college in the country where you are purchasing your Apple product.

i'm getting a macbook over there but i am going to use the online student store. i've done a dummy run through the process and at no stage did it ask me for proof i was a student - the same as the irish educational site.

so there shouldnt be a problem.

They dont ask for proof when you are ordering online. It's afterwards they call you or email you and ask you to submit a scanned copy of a student id.

From what I've heard they do it more over in America than here. You might get lucky but be prepared if you dont.

Join up as a student devloper and you will get it as cheap or even cheaper here. Have a search for a post by me on this board for exact prices, i think it gives you about 20% off and you will get a UK charger with it

They wouldn't recognise my student card in the New York Apple shop last year, he explained at the time but i wasn't really listening after he'd said no :)

it depends on the store and the manager on at the time. An apple store in new jersey would accept mine but the nyc one wouldn't.

ordering online as a student can work but you need a us based credit card else they won't process the order.

    Thanks for the advice,

Well, I'll probably be around a few stores, so I'll see if I can find one that works.
