Cancelling my Gold account?

How can i cancel my xbox live gold account so that its only a silver account? Ive tried to do it through my 360 but it just offers me the 3 and 12 month options. I only have perfect dark on live and i havent used it at all online since the start of the summer so theres no point in me paying it.
