I have an idea at the moment about starting up a charity.

Still at research stage at the moment, so the first task would be to get a plan down on paper, perhaps get some initial feedback on the plan, and then look at formally registering the charity.

Aiming to apply a business-like approach to raising funds and possibly sourcing and then getting specific equiment to the main beneficiaries I have in mind.

I have business and a bit of journalistic experience and am good at research, building contacts, finding the right people, etc.

Also I recently researched and wrote the history of one of the larger charities, so there are probably a few ex-charity people I could approach for advice.

If anyone would like to know more - who the beneficiaries are, and a bit more about the general idea - with a view to getting involved, please pm me.

Bear in mind it will help if you can bring skills and/or contacts to the table. It will be challenging, fun, worthwhile, and will look good on your CV!

    bump and further info...

Two people expressed an interest in helping out so far - they know who they are - so thanks guys.

Secondly, have had some success at tracking down contact details of the beneficiaries I have in mind, having been in touch with the one of the UN news agencies.

Now to see if they are open to the idea of us trying to help out, and if so, to find out what they need.

Then comes the planning to see how we might get what they need or raise money to get it...

yep but also looking for innovative ways to get sponsorship from companies that can provide the medication & equipment.

Also to have a blog running alongside the whole thing telling the story of how it evolves, and to generate publicity for the whole thing, which might be a selling point to help get companies and organisations involved.

Just waiting for some info and to see if the beneficiaries are interested, then I will post a drafted plan up here with all the information, and then we can see where it leads.

update - have had a response from a small NGO who are providing medicines, medical aid and also bringing some children needing specialist surgery to europe for operations.

They are based in Vienna and my contact is just back from Kuwait where she met doctors from Basra was organising a consignment of medical aid for them.

She has given me a number of suggestions about how to co-operate with them.

Anyone interested in knowing more - vagrant and BOHS, I am thinking of you guys as you PMd me some time ago - and anyone else, please get PM me.

Anyone good with Wordpress or Typepad and have a bit of time to design a blog for this in return for credit on the site and you can add it to your portfolio?
