Just bought an item off eBay

...and I'm kinda scared because I've never bought anything off eBay before. I think I made the transection right, and I paid through paypal (eventually...lol). It only cost 20euro so if somebody does scam me it won't be much on my behalf. I bought it off someone from UK so just a few shipping questions...

    1) How long will it take? The seller said that he sent it last Tuesday morning by First Class Post from the UK and I've heard nothing from him since, and it hasn't arrived yet. I went on a couple of websites (the UK post website, and anpost.ie) and on it, first class post is meant to bring next day delivery.

    2) How exactly will I get the package? It won't fit in my letterbox seeing as it is an actually 'locked' outdoor postbox, and only letters will fit through. I won't exactly be here to sign for it or anything, when the postman comes because I have my junior cert all week and I'll be out of the house. Plus, don't postmen come really early....

Sorry about this it's just I'm very new to buying on eBay and am a bit confused about the process!

    Finally...

    3) Should I be worried?

I wouldnt be too worried unless the seller had a heap of recent negative feedback :) The postman will deliver (dont think you will have to sign for first class post, unless there was a tracking number provided) Post from England seems to take a while.

I've experienced post from Japan and the States to be a lot faster than from the UK. Give it up to 3 weeks, so now you must play the waiting game.

If you're not in, the postman will fill out a form with your name and address, tick a box as to whether it is a packet, parcel etc, and fill in a box telling you what time and date it is available for collection from (usually the same date).

You just go to your sorting office, hand that slip of paper over and they will hand you out your item.

Thanks for your quick replies! I was getting worried! But the seller seems fine - all positive feedback, so I think I'll be alright.

And I was just worried because I saw from the site that it was next-day delivery! It's great that I can pick it up if I'm not in! woo hoo!

Thans again..and I wonder why it's so slow from the UK as opposed to other countries

If you find the answer about the slow mail from the UK, let us all in on the secret please? ;)

Awww, you broke your eBay cherry!

The key with sellers on ebay is to check their feedback ratings, although they can be 'massaged'.

Plus at least using PayPal, the seller never gets your credit card details.

But most importantly, iggy all those emails you get saying 'Paypal security alert!". All scams designed to trick you into thinking that you're logging into your Paypal account, but in reality your account will be hijacked.

Also remember to check how long the seller has been with ebay.

Here ye so lads whats the deal with the postage from the UK lately?

Check the postage stamp on the package to see when it was originally posted. Some sellers are very tardy.

My theory for the Uk post is that they wait until they have filled a 100ft container for Ireland and only then is it dispatched,

I sent a polite message saying "I'm sorry...have you sent the item yet?" expecting him to say yes, but he's heard the post to Ireland has been very slow.

Instead I get: "Sorry! But I'm not sending the item until I receive payment". Uggggghh! I paid through my dads paypal account!

Though I was a bit confused about the paypal thing when I was doing it, because it said that my paypal balance was 0euro..but when I paid for the item I just used a credit card.

How can he have not received the money yet? :(

Your paypal acc should have pulled funds from the credit card.

Log into the pay pal acc and check the details on that transaction.
It should show two transactions for that time. One would be pulling the funds from the credit card, and the other would be sending the funds to your seller.

If it shows as 0 went to the seller, ask your dad whether the account has pulled funds from that credit card before.
