Does anybody know when Ntl are going to upgrade their digital service in ireland like getting in new tv channels and changing the epg and also introducing interactive services?

NTL don't exist any more here. UPC now owns Chorus and the previousl NTL Ireland.

They will rebrand and revamp when they have fixed the networks and brought them all up to the digital standard supporting Broadband and Phone also.

This may take a while. I imagine parts of the networks are worse than they suspected.

Just popped over to this board to express my exasperation at the NTL epg.

Rather than start a new thread can I just state here, for the record, that
the NTL epg is complete and utter pants and needs urgent replacing.

Why does everyone hate the NTL epg so much?

I have limited exposure to sky but I think the way they list programs across the screen is annoying, I prefer the NTL way any day. What else do people hate about the NTL one?

It freezes continuously. Sometimes it's showing what was on hours ago (affecting the 'auto tune' feature). Sometimes it shows nothing. Sometimes it says 'Gathering data...' for ages. It is very slow to change from channel to channel (the guide, not changing channels) - you hit the 'up' or 'down' keys on the remote and nothing happens. You hit the buttons a few more times and nothing happens and then suddenly it responds to ALL the key presses. You can only look forward to the next day (useless for setting auto tune to record when you're away for a few days). The list is endless.

Exasperating is the best word I can think of for it.

It doesn't need to look like the Sky epg. It just needs to work properly. And provide information for a week ahead.

I rarely use the EPG via the Guide page, but just hit Browse, and, well, browse away. What often happens then is you'll be happily zapping through the channels seeing what's on now and next, and then all of a sudden ... nothing. Not only that but it seems to affect groups of channels, say bbc1, bbc2, utv and ch4, bu the next channel in the series is OK. For some reason hitting the Guide button, and then immediately the Browse button seems to get those channels back, but it gets pretty frustrating.

This morning, the EPG was frozen on the last two programs for last night, and didn't right itself until much later in the day.

UPC will be releasing PVR STB's in Q3 this year, followed shortly after by Interactive (red button) Tv. Seemingly.

Spockety, where did you hear about this PVR? Ive been searching for ages to find out if one will be out soon and for you to say it is expected Q3 this year has got me all excited! :D
Although until my bills stop coming from Chorus and start coming from UPC I wont hold my breath....I have never had a problem with Chorus, they just don't seem too pushed to update anything(i.e. add new channels, proper digital feed for rte etc, interactive service, the list goes on...)

When I see flying pigs soaring over the house, I'll believe that. They're still running under the ntl: and Chorus names, advertising away as if nothing had happened, with no indication of any change whatsoever due to the new management, not even a letter included with the bill to explain the situation to those who maybe missed the news stories. I'm not holding my breath ...

I'll call bull as well. If they were that close to intereactivity (2 way digital networks), ntl would have brought out some trial (even only a token service) to bump up the market value before selling.

    PVRs maybe, Interactive not yet!

Well UPC is supposed to be realising HD, multi tuner PVR's in the Netherlands soon, but I wouldn't hold my breath for it to arrive in Ireland.

Maybe I'll be happily proven wrong.

Why not? They said they were aiming for all of Dublin to have internet soon, plus every digital box has a cable modem in it.

Not quiet true. Those older silver ones and the new small ones do not have a cable modem in them. The older black models do however have a cable modem in them.

    So it seems. http://www.advanced-television.com/2006/news_archive_2006/apr03_apr07.htm#UPC

I'm not sure if it kicked off in time for the WC though.
