why is it all the ex russian countries are sh*t hot at the old thai game.... anybody????

Just general hardness. I know lots of Eastern Bloc and Russian lads living over hear.

They all have three constant traits.

    1) There all sound as hell.
    2) There all hard as nails.
    3) They can all drink like warhorses.

Must be genetic or something!!

I was watching it there earlier in the week on TV mon and tues saw an hour or so.

plenty of these ex russian countries,,belars, Ubeckisstan (sp??) . all had fighters. the thais seemed a bit more laid back and the ex commies more wanting to get stuck in.

Probably the ex russians got no money, little opportunity, nothing else to do but train?

I met eastern europeans into KM and its the same...they all trained 6 - 7 nights a week 3 -5 hours each night.
their hard lads no doubt, inthat neck of the woods.

I ask about the camp here did anyone know about the Amature Worldchampship this week...one fighter thought he heard about it but was not sure!! LOL!!!

I think its funny.... these thai lads are fighting every 4 -5 weeks, full on, not even gum guards. in fact their that poor, most do not even have muay thai shorts (I do feel like a twat sometimes in me designer fairtex shorts!!!) , and I've seen the one pair of Thai shorts being shared about at a fight night...even btwn different camps more than once.

I suppose they would not be too interested in boys getting padded up to humor a load of foreigners!

As I said on here before... these fighters in the camp would not even know what a pair of shin pads were.

the wages for fightinig is 1000 - 2000 Bhat for winning depending on what the fight is and 500 for a looser up in these parts...and thats their job! most of these will never make it to the top levels...yet their still at it twice a day year in year out....

sometimes I wonder if their looking at me thinking..."hes got money,,,whys he even bother doing this boxing.. he must have a screw loose. if I had his money I would not be in a boxing camp!!!!" "these Frangs are weird!!""

I asked a couple of east european and former soviet bloc buddies of mine why there were all so big, so good at scraping and so good at drinking. The unanimous answer was that (dodgy east european accent) In my country all we have for young mens, is gym, boxing and wodka.

So there you have it, straight from the warhorses mouth, as it were.

Your spot on with those views Gerry, especially with the last piece on the Thai lads views, they do look and see Farangs coming over to Box as mad, Thai Boxing is a way out of poverty for most of them so its only logical for them to think we are crazy. Basically Thais usually fight to survive/make a living, Euros and Yanks do it as a hobbie or what ever you call it.
