    Uninstall it (AnyDVD) and see what happens, did it happen straight after AnyDVD got installed or did it work for a while ?

    The bad news is discs no longer reading is a common occurrence a few suggestions;

    Update the firmware of the drive. [Download Maddog OEM ND3550 firmware 1.f2 & use Binflash Win32GUI to flash it]

    Remove the drive from the device manager & let windows re-install it.

    Installed any funky IDE drivers like NVIDIA's or VIA's they are known to conflict with some writers.

    thanks, its def the anydvd install, even got the BSoD, which stated the anydvd was the culprit, unfortunatly even after uninstalling it I'm still getting random Blue screens whn I put in a blank dvd to burn to, when I reboot with the disc in the drive I can burn fine.. i think I'll install the driver u gave me and see how that goes..
    thanks again

    You can find instructions to cleanly remove AnyDVD in this thread though I would speculate that there was some pre-existing problem/compatibility issue in your operating system that caused the problems after AnyDVD was installed and removed.

    From the start-run box type sfc /scannow & press enter that will initiate a system check of windows to make sure no files critical to the OS have been tampered with if it find any it will prompt for the OS CD to reinstall them.

    I'd also check to see you don't have any drivers loaded that may interfere with your DVD drive what sort of motherboard chipset have you got ?

    Finally if you check the event log in control panel/administrative tools it should display the error for when the system BSOD, see what file it says the error was in relation to.
