Ive seen a lot of posts asking about this. Well, walked into FBD in bluebell this morning after VRT'ing my new motor. Car is a 1972 Clubman. Owner is a Mk1 1971 Man. Asked for some classic insurance please, this is my only car, only insurance policy (im named driver on my girlfriends regular policy but they didnt ask for that)

353 euros handed over. Car now insured 3rd Party Fire & Theft.

Result :D:D:D oh and they were the nicest insurance company ive ever dealt with and no i dont work for them :p

    Just thought id share.

Sounds like a standard policy, as opposed to 'classic' - my policy is with FBD and costing around 400 for the Mercedes... OK it's not a classic as such but at 22 years old it isn't considered a modern car (previously been refused insurance on it due to its age!)

i dont care what they call it :D i think they've found a niche the market, or at least a part of the market other insurance companies wont touch because the premiums are nothing like the ones they are creaming off the poor youngfelllas in the modified motors

I rang those guys yesterday for a quote on a 66 Mustang and a Triumph Spitfrie.. I waited till today for them to get back to me!!!!! After all that being said the said they couldnt insure it as they were sports cars!!!! Both cars are well over 30 yrs and i am 30 myself full license etc..... THEY WERE A WASTE OF TIME BASICALLY.... Just my experience anyway!!!!!!!

It is illegal for them to not give you a quote.

true, but they can say that they "don't have a product that would suit your needs" if you push them they will give you "a quote".

As an aside I know of someone who pushed the insurance company for a quote, they picked 16k for the year and he said ok  and paid too. (he was not in the prime of his life and was a big car).

I think they would still consider the Mini toi be a standard regular car, i.e lots being driven daily !

Also you only wanted 3rd party whereas with the Mustang etc I assume fully comp. is required and thats when they bow out. If they insured it fully comp. and it was driven daily, then crashed they'd be open to a lot of extra costs !
