They are Broken Social Scene, Laura Izibor, Mogwai, Mundy, Jim Noir and Young Blood Brass Band, according to the Electric Picnic forums.

Still nothing that would really make me go...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 pcorry

ah savage, BSS and Mogwai though!

i really hope that prince rumour comes true! i will be ecstatic!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

It wont. Pretty much confirmed by organisers that Prince would have cost about 3 times their budget.

Wilco rumour still doing the rounds, hopefully that happens.

hopefully if BSS are playing Stars might pop there head in as well, that would rock.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

Well Id like to see if we get Feist this time around as opposed to Amy Milan or whoever the blonde girl at the TBMC gig was (i thought she was better than Amy if only because Amy just reminded me of seeing Stars).

They're playin Oxegen, pretty certain they wont play EP then

Last year only 2 acts played both, Doves and LCD Soundsystem

Did I read this thread correctly: I missed seeing Amy Millan open for Broken Social Scene at TMBC? Oh no!!!! I will be kicking myself for days.

Re: Mundy - why? I know he had a song on the "Romeo & Juliet" soundtrack, but surely he can stop bragging about it now...

No Amy was the lead female vocalist for BSS at the Vicar St gig. Lead female vocals seems to rotate between her, Feist, and the blonde curley haired girl who sang at the TBMC.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 468 ✭✭MrJones

i was at both these gigs. afaik the girl singing in TBMC was lisa lobsinger and she was just filling in. i think shes from the band stars. she has the beehive hair thing. a sweet chick!!
the girl who sang the last night in vicar st is the main female vocalist who sings on all the BSS recordings.

You're right TBMC was Lisa Lobsinger (I always forget her name) however shes not a member of Stars (well she certainly wasnt at the gig in the Village anyway).

Amy Millan who is a member of Stars was singing for BSS at Vicar street. They even said thanks to her and the trombonist as members of Stars.

Leslie Feist is the female singer in the videos and the studio vocalist for BSS and is generally considered to be the best one to catch them with but shes often doing her own stuff so isnt available that often.

edit: bleurgh couldnt find any decent photos of the vicar st gig but heres Amy with Stars , Feist with BSS , and Lisa with BSS. I think its pretty easy to see the difference between Amy and Feist and realise it was Amy at Vicar st.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 468 ✭✭MrJones

i dont think leslie feist was vocalist on the new bss album. but she was up to and including you forgot it in people.it's definitely amy millan in the 7/4 shoreline video.
it's pretty cool how they can interchange singers and still sound great altough obviously kevin drew is always there.

Grandmaster Melle Mel and The Furious Five are unleashed on
    Electric Picnic
    Stradbally Hall, Co. Laois

    1st, 2nd, 3rd September

Another first for the now sold out Electric Picnic. One of hip-hop’s greatest pioneers – Grandmaster Melle Mel and The Furious Five’s- four surviving members will reform for their first show ever in Ireland at this years’ Electric Picnic on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd September in Stradbally Hall, Co. Laois.

Grandmaster Melle Mel's jaw dropping beats and the Furious Five’s awesome delivery revolutionized the music world and changed the musical landscape forever. During Hip-Hop’s nearly 30-year history, few tracks have become as well known to music lovers across the globe as The Furious Five in particular their timeless classic The Message. They entertained crowds for free, five rappers and a DJ who made the turntable a musical instrument. The Clash wanted them to be their opening act. Blondie performed a #1 song about their parties. Duran Duran covered their songs.

Calling them influential or pioneering wouldn’t even describe it. Alongside DJ supremo Grandmaster Flash, The Furious Five’s not only made New York’s fledgling hip hop scene an international phenomenon it also codified the ABCs of deejaying and MCing for future generations with hits like The Message and White Lines. The four surviving members – Melle Mel, Kid Creole, Scorpio and Raheim- the true godfathers of hip hop will be getting the Electric Picnickers to “Throw your hands in the air and wave ‘em like ya just don’t care!” for their very Irish first show.

Another Electric Picnic addition to the bill is also a hip-hop legend. Cut Chemist has been a staple of LA hip-hop scene since the late eighties. His eclectic sets and deep crates are legendary. After years in the background with Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli, Cut Chemist is grabbing some limelight with the release of his solo debut this summer, The Audience is Listening. As for The Audience's sound, not surprisingly, the album is all over the map. "There's everything from Brazilian to rock to lots of world stuff’’ he says. Whatever his influences/style we can be assured that ablest solo turntablist on the globe will not disappoint.

Cited as ‘something special and unprecedented’ by The Independent, Swedish seven-piece act,Koop are a further fantastic addition to this year’s line-up. Their second album, Waltz for Koop, may well become a classic in its own right. Perceiving jazz as rhythm and form rather than the orthodox idea of jazz being merely improvisation, led by Magnus Zingmark and Oscar Simonsson, have already become a cult among the jazz dance underground. Waltz for Koop has been played, charted and loved to death by people like Kruder Dorfmeister, Nuspirit Helsinki, DJ Mad Mats, Nick Weston, and Gilles Peterson.Techno, jazz, acid jazz, call it what you will; the bottom line is, Koop have created the most seamless combination of jazz and electronic that will leave you craving more.

Electric Picnic 2006 sold out three weeks ago and already boasts the following acts: Basement Jaxx, Massive Attack, New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Groove Armada, PJ Harvey, Antony and the Johnsons, Gnarls Barkley, Skatalites, DJ Shadow, Damien Rice, Amadou and Mariam, Young Blood Brass Band, Richard Hawley, Aberfeldy,Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Frames, Yo La Tengo, Metro Area, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Devendra Banhart, Tiefschwarz,Super Furry Animals, Dulsori Drummers, Liam Frost, Belle & Sebastian, Coldcut Live, Rufus Wainwright (solo), Bloc Party,Krafty Kuts, Tapes, Alabama 3, The Rapture, Mad Professor, Laurent Garnier, Jape, Psapp, Laura Izibor, Ian Pooley, Stereotonic DJS, Corrugated Tunnel V Chymera, Messiah J and The Experts,Saul Williams, Radio Soulwax presents Niteversions, Mogwai, Bodytonic Sound System, Gang of Four,Francois K, Nathan Fake (Live), David Kitt, The Boy Least Likely To, Crazy P Live, Rachid Taha, Elbow, Sparks, Spank Rock, Fish Go Deep, Josh Ritter,The Boy Least Likely to,Graham Coxon, Deus, The Rags, Semifinalists,Hot Chip, The Dublin Gospel Choir, Gary Numan, and Blue Nile

Ireland's only boutique festival, which has grown quickly from an alternative day-out to a 3-day festival is now a major fixture and must for those of eclectic taste.

The Electric Picnic, Ireland's boutique music festival with seven stages, 3 days of camping takes place 1st 2nd and 3rd September 2006.
