I only use ebay now and again this is the first time I've come across this issue, namely everytime I bid on an item someone else tops it automaticly.

See attachment for better understanding. I am effectively bidding against myself until the buyer known as goldseekers gets bored?. Is this cricket?

    Mike.

    I don't think this is a scam.

The other bidder just has a high maximum bid as every time you placed a bid, ebay increased the first bidders bid on an incremental basis.

If you've ever placed a maximum bid, you'd see this. Ebay explain how maximum bids work

In fact, I'm certain this isn't a scam

If you're selling something on ebay I think the seller can set the bid increment, in this case it appears to be 20 pence. Gold seeker has bid a max amount (£5 or whatever) but will only outbit each bid by 20 pence until his maximum bit is beaten, ebay does this automatically as micmclo explained.

Ebay bids automatically for the user until it reaches the users highest bid they entered at the start of bidding.

Its called Proxy bidding, do a search on ebay help, I believe there is a good explanation of it there.

I'm surprised how many people that use ebay and don't know how this works.
