    saw this in the herald.
whole thing looks like the usual herald ****e and im guessing all items will eventually be sold for about 5euro less than the "market value" quoted in the ads.
this value seems to be about 40 - 50% inflated [based on online prices] on some items.

motorrbike helmet - claimed value 250eu
    125eu delivered from germany
    projector - claimed value 999eu
    600eu delivered from uk

and so on and so on

    anyone planning on using it?
make sure your folks / friends dont get caught up in the "exciting and fun bidding" as theyll end up paying high street prices for online goods.

ive already warned my folks off it.

I did a similar test as well on the computer items - all inflated - did you notice the phantom bids - all made to ensure the sellers don't give away a bargain!

I posted about it on askaboutmoney - http://www.askaboutmoney.com/showthread.php?t=30175

I also emailed them at the contact email and told them what I thought of their "auction" - who are they trying to fool!

Another one here: Garmin GPS, "valued" at €479 while Expansys are selling it for €394.95, reduced from €439.95. Rip-off central IMO.

gets better. A bid now on an xbox - Value - Eur359 - highest bid Eur360!

Deffo no bargains there, wait and see.
It will be interesting to see exactly how much "off" the r.r.p.
    they will be sold for.

Wait and see how many bids will appear just before closing
and I'll bet that most of the items will go for just below list price especially the electrical ones:eek:

20 minutes left and there's at least 5 items have higher bids then the rrp

the whole thing is a joke. the Harvey Norman ones are the best. Grab a bargain based on their "idea" of value. Still love to know who put bids on the camcorders when it didn't even quote model types!

Funny that as I was going to put a bid on the "cheaper" one but I couldn't find the camera on the website and wasn't going to go all the way over to HN to check them out.
    Rubbish system and rubbish auctions.
I'd be amazed if they do another one.
Auctions are where you may get a bargain, if you don't, you won't go back.
I'd say there will be a lot of people who won't bother going back.
Wonder why they didn't leave the "winning" bids up there?
Also wonder exactly how many of the those "winning" bids will be honoured by the purchasers.

I had made a bid, but was outbid, a week after the auction ended I became the new highest bidder, I guess because whoever outbid me didn't pay up! woot!

This thread has an unbelievable number of page views, yet few posts...
Was it linked from a big site or busy blog or something?

If you google ibid.ie it appears in the first few hits; could be it.

I think that their homepage consists of a single 247.92 KB JPEG says it all tbh.

    awesome
    awesome to the max.

Boards.ie seems to be owning the google search rankings for Ireland these days :)

    Anyways, my on -topic bit:
Has anyone here actually used Ibid, and how was it?

I bid and won 2 items, both from bikeworld, both at a good price below their rrp (though the rrp is higher than you can find on the net - I reckon I still got them at a decent price).

Both have been collected - I'm happy - they were very friendly!

    out of interest,
would you be willing to post up what you bought and the pric you paid?

    also,
were you the first winning bidder or did the people ahead of you pull out?

I'd be interested in seeing that as well.

Gilera Ice - 1180 (original winning bidder) - selling discounted now new for 1599 in bikeworld i think.

Shark Helmet S500 Air - 155 (became winning bidder after a week (someone dropped out)) - marked 250 in bikeworld still, though online you see it alot cheaper, but you don't get fitting, and have to pay for delivery so for me it was fair enough.

The way it was explained to me was that the goods were given to the Herald as a form (in exchange) for advertising (presumably face value worth of advertising) and then the Herald just got what they could for them, that way the retailer didn't mind what they went for cos they got the full whack of advertising.

I actually browsed the entire site just to see the biggest margins between bid and rrp and cross checked the interesting items online, the only things I was really interested in was the above kit so I just put in max bids and let it go on the Sunday night (prob not a good time to end an auction).
