Collected the tokens back in Feb this year from Irish Indo and those fly & bye can do a run & jump

    To quote comic book guy

    'Worse customer service ever'

First choice was Nice but was not available

Second choice was Amsterdam which they offered me

So aint going to go on my own so bringing my better half

And guess what its more expensive with them than it is for Aer Lingus

Someone is making a buck or six

Yeah you get one free but to bring someone else you might
    as well book online

    Rant over

Anyone know what's going on with Buy and Fly?

I tried to log in today and all I got was a message saying: "This promotion is temporarily suspended for more information please refer to your points issuer." The UK site's the same and the Swedish site redirects to some bank.

I have over 4000 points collected with the buggers!!!

Letter from Tesco today. Buy and Fly have ceased trading. Like you I had a shed load of points saved up. They seemed to be gone as Tesco did not say anything in the letter about converting these back to clubcard points

Yeah, the mother company Landround Travel went bust a couple of weeks ago. I had over 4100 points with the buggers!! How many did you have?

Its simply not fair that buy and fly went bust.they gave us no warning or anything.they just went and that was it.they could of told us a month b4 hand so us people could figure out what the hell to do with our points and that would of given us a chance anyway.theres people that have spent the year saving points to go to the states or Aussie land or anywhere and now all that time and money and points have now bein wasted on nothing. MBNA sent me a letter a few days b4 xmas day to let me know as i have a mbna/buy and fly credit card. we converted out buy and fly points to tesco in the summer because it was a con job basicly but we had something like 6,000 points in our buy and fly account and now there all gone which is so unfair.tesco should be able to convert everyones points for them and then we'll all be happy then because its just not fair that we have to suffer now on loosing loads of points we saved up and at the end it was all for nothing.

To be honest, not a lot of companies are going to be in a position to contact it's customers and say 'hi there, just want to let you know we're going bust next month so if you want to go ahead and book flights with us and use up the money we don't have that'd be fine'.

I get you point though. The damn scheme wasn't very well run in the first place anyway.

Okay i understand what ur saying so what do u think should be done because tesco should convert our points for us.No i agree, it wasn't very well run.sure when u book a flight with them, u still had to pay taxes so it wasn't free anyway and the flights were cheap like u'd get a flight urself for a euro or a penny urself so it was a con job booking it with buy and fly.

I used Buy and Fly points for 2 return flights to Bordeaux with Aer Lingus and was very pleased with that. I also used them for a free weeks camping with Keycamp in Brittany, also a family pass to Dublin Zoo and €200 of a holiday to Spain. All in all I was very pleased with the service.

I see in the UK Tesco use Air Miles instead. Maybe they will take on Buy and Flys business with any luck.

Is Air Miles sort of the same as buy and fly where people collect points for stuff?

Well you were clever to use your points because other people are not so lucky like you are.

Why the rolley eyes, is the whole purpose not to spend the points

I still lost a lot of points when they closed

Anybody got any more news about BuyandFly?
I have rung Tesco on at least five occasions, over the last 2 and a half months and whilst they are very polite, they tell me nothing.
I feel SO strongly that Tesco should make some sort of retribution (reimbursement) towards us. I can't even find out how many points I have as, of course, they no longer exist. But when I tell you that I got over €50 in Tesco's last posting, it must be a lot.
I would really like to take this further. Think I'll ring Consumer Association. After all, Tesco facilitated and encouraged us to convert our points to BuyandFly points. Surely they should accept some responsibility for the points that have gone missing.
    :(

Well. I might finally have some news, if anyone is still out there interested!!
After a dozen or so phone calls, I managed to speak to someone in Head Office who had the courtesy of finding out what the current situation is, instead of just reading off the hymn sheet that most of them are given.
She rang me back on Friday, and said that Tesco ARE planning to honour the points accumulated with BuyandFly. She also said that I should receive a letter by the end of next week - along with the other customers - confirming this fact.
How they are going to work out how many points I have is still a mystery to me, but presumably there is some way to access BuyandFly's database. I also sent her the Holiday Vouchers that I had converted from points some time ago. To be honest, they were on the point of expiring, but the date of expiration was after Landround went bust, so I could well make a case ;) We'll see.
Watch this space. I'll post as soon as I get my letter, and if I don't get it, I do not intend to give up.
    Greetings to all

Earth mother - please don't use those fonts and effects. It's very hard to read on some skins of boards.ie :-)

I've edited the post to make it easier for folks to read.

Great work earth mother. The next question is will Tesco convert the BuyandFly points back into clubcard points at the rate which they converted them.

So that's 1 BuyandFly point = 5 club card points. So someone with 4000 buyandfly points should be refunded 20,000 club card points???

€2000 in vouchers to spend in Tesco????? I doubt it

Will post when have anything to add. Will be away for a week, starting 7 March, so if I don't hear this week - as promised  - won't be able to 'report' til the week after.

I must be doing my sums wrong. Is it 100 clubcard points equals 1 euro voucher??

1 buyandfly point equals 5 clubcard points??

4000 buyandfly points equals 20,000 clubcard points = ,€200 in vouchers?

    Does this sound right?

Yep, sounds about right to me too. Mind you, I can't imagine them giving us €2000 OR €200.

Funny you should say that. I just received a letter from them saying they are honouring the B&F points and are sending me over €200 worth of vouchers :D:D:D

Ah how sweet it is to be proven wrong...sometimes.

Tell me this, did you collect your BuyandFly points sloely through Tesco or had you received some from other avenues (such as Ask Chili)?

I got a letter yesterday. Forgot to post.

Basically they're decided that I'm due €48 from them (while I had 4500 BuyandFly points, most of them were collected through a marketing company in Dublin) and they're giving me those points in the form of a credit on my Clubcard account.

Sure enough, when I checked my Clubcard balance online today they're added 4800 points. I can't complain.

Thanks again for your efforts Earth Mother.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 233 ✭✭fattestman

check your balance online first and see if they've added any points to your total.

I was just reading the post as i am a new clubcard member with tesco and was reallt interested in joining the buy and fly scheme not knowing that they had gone bust. On my welcome to clubcard letter from tesco they are still advertising the buy and fly points which i think is a bit silly but i hope ye all get back what ye are due.... And well done earth mother for doing so well.... :D

    Hi All
Just to say that I have now had my letter from Tesco.
They are giving me E60 in Clubcard Vouchers.
Although this is a large sum of money, I am still disputing with them that this is enough. I'm not being greedy, I just don't believe that I am getting enough points in return for what I saved with Buy and Fly
    Will keep you informed

Ok. So here I am again!!
Yesterday I sat down with my Tesco Credit Card and worked out what I had spent in Tesco since Jan 08 (extra points), and how much I had spent on my credit card (1 point for every €2 spent).
After I had recovered from seeing just how much I had actually spent () I rang Customer Care and finally managed to get them to find out how much had been converted to buyandfly points.
The €60.50 that I had been told I was due - by Kenny Jacobs, Marketing Director - was the sum from the 3 month period, Aug/Oct.
The Customer Services Agent said he would pass this on to Admin, as he couldn't do any more.
I have also written to Mr. Jacobs, stating what I consider they owe me, plus €200 worth of holiday vouchers that I had sent in in February.
If any of you are going down the same road as me, keep insisting to Customer Care and eventually they WILL be able to see what was converted. In his letter, Mr. Jacobs said that 'the administrators of Landround indicate your balance .............' I know exactly when I last used my buyandfly points so that was helpful too.
Best of luck to all. I'll keep you informed.
I am taking this all the way
    Hopefully,
    Earth Mother

Here I am again, if anyone is interested, doing an update
I got my voucher mailing and, as expected, only got the €60.50 worth of extras.
I got back on to Customer Care and had to go through the whole thing again. Again I was told that the operative would pass it on to Admin.
I told him in no uncertain terms that I WAS NOT going to let this drop. I didn't even have the courtesy of an acknowledgment of my letter to the Marketing Director dated 27 March.
I'm going to give it to the end of the week, and then take it to LiveLine, or something like that
Anybody else got any more news?
    Still hoping

Earth Mother you may want to have a read of the aviation regulators details on landround. http://www.aviationreg.ie/_fileupload/Image/Landround%20Claim%20Form.pdf

    In particular "¨ Vouchers
    • Vouchers are not eligible for refund from the Bond except in instances where the voucher has been
exchanged for full or part payment for overseas travel. In such instances, evidence of the booking
must be supplied together with evidence of payment.
    • Vouchers are not eligible for refund from the Bond where they have been obtained from a Third Party
(e.g. retailer) by way of a loyalty/rewards scheme" this would mean that it will be up to tesco to deicde whether or not to honour your points as they will not be able to claim from the bond either.

Oh well done Antrim Man. Did you have to fight for them?

"Earth Mother you may want to have a read of the aviation regulators details on landround. http://www.aviationreg.ie/_fileuploa...aim Form.pdf"

Thanks Tippex. But my fight is not with Landround and in his letter the Marketing Manager said ".............. we will credit your Clubcard account with the points that you converted to buy and fly! points and did not us ......" So I don't believe that the other rules apply

    Finally I have good news.
After over 20 phone calls, useless promises from Tesco, me threatening LiveLine, Small Claims Court etc. etc. - yesterday what arrived in the post?
A money card from Tesco with the €100 on it that I claim they owed me. :D:D
    The lesson learnt?
    Persevere.
Thanks for all the comments and encouragement that I received from you all
