    Ok so heres the plan, Go to american with €5,000, 4 people, but an pre-owned car, drive from the west coast to east coast, for 6 weeks. Its not for a long while yet, but thats the general plan.

    Heres what I'm posting here for. Has anyone done anything similar? if so whats the craic with doing it? what advise/info could you give? also whats the score with Tax and Insurance over there? gonna go post in Boards.us too but seriously gust post with your best wishes/hate mail/info etc.

    (the plan is 5 days in vegas, 5 in new york the rest "exploring"/driving)

    EDIT: sorry thought for some reason i was posting in the travel forum, lesson to all the kids don't have more than 1 boards browser window open at once!!!

    You dont pay tax, but you pay for your plates every year (in IL its $78). Insurance is mandatory, you must have insurance, its the law. If you are caught without it expect a big fine :)

    ok do you need a US address for insurance, do they do insurance for a stated period?

    I would imagine you need a US address. I believe you can get a temp plate.
